I think people believe that only SAT/ACT scores and GPA are the key factors for what defines a "extremely or highly" competitive applicant. If you really invest time researching this forum you will see that so much more is involved. IMHO, I believe demographics play a much bigger role than many people realize. In the end, an applicant can only put together the best application he/she can possibly do and that's what ultimately matters most.

When they say 'extremely' competitive applicants, I think about having an almost perfect standardized test score (1550+ SAT, 35+ ACT), perfect CFA score, stellar leaderships (NHS President, Student Body President, Class President, Eagle Scout etc.), plays multiple varsity sports and lettered athlete who gets all-state awards etc.

You're basically a perfect match for any college that you apply to.

I think many would agree. In reality, the true definition is what each service academy determines it to be.

Can we get back on topic for the OP?
my blue and gold officer told me that I am an extremely competitive applicant, and I got two nominations to USNA and one to USAFA, but I haven't heard anything back yet.
The thing is your BGO said this, what did your ALO say. This is not a USNA thread, but a USAFA thread
Your BGO might feel that you are extremely competitive because not only of your WCS, but you have 2 noms to USNA. You only have 1 to USAFA. That means you have 2 shots of being charged to an MoC for USNA before hitting the pool, whereas, you only have 1 shot for USAFA.
~ Sorry, but I think your ALO should be the person you refer to when it comes to an extremely competitive aspect for USAFA, not the BGO. Maybe you meant to type ALO.

Should I just assume that I haven't heard back yet that I got rejected? Or are the chances extremely slim now?
I am not someone to blow smoke up anybody's arse, however, if you look at the appointment lists, you can see it really is now down to a very slow drip. Does that mean you won't be one of those that get an appointment? No. Does it mean, if you were my child I would be starting to finalize my plan B? Yes. Deposits need to be made. Orientation dates at some schools are tied to 1st come 1st serve responses. If you have multiple ROTC scholarships in hand, you need to weed that out too. NROTC is tied to the school, degree and the mid. AFROTC is tied to the degree and the cadet.

My best hopes.

I must accept it by the end of March. It's a question if I should reject this full ride for a chance at an academy or take the full ride with zero chance at an academy.

OBTW have you talked to that college? There have been posters that contacted the admissions dept and explained their situation. They were allowed to place a deposit as plan B. One actually got the call from an SA @ 1 week prior to I Day.

Please, nobody go down the rabbit hole and take this off topic...is it ethical. If the OP contacts the school and they say Sure, we can do this, than let's be honest, the school decided that it was fine by them.
~ This is just giving advice of thinking about their academic future.

Should I just assume that I haven't heard back yet that I got rejected?

With all due respect, in absence of a BFE or TWE, why should you assume anything one way or the other? As has been said many times now in similar threads, unless you have a TWE, you're in the running.

I completely agree with that for sure! Best to be positive! I'm just curious because I have two full rides on the table, but for one of them I must accept it by the end of March. It's a question if I should reject this full ride for a chance at an academy or take the full ride with zero chance at an academy. So if there's still a pretty good chance I'll get in then I will decline the other offer. Very stressful right now. Really just wish I had some kind of answer or indication. Thank you though!
Curious about “must accept (full ride) by end of March” - aren’t colleges supposed to all have a deadline of May 1?

I'm just saying the truth. Don't give an applicant false hopes. I'm trying to tell OP that life is cruel and hard. You will be rejected from time to time, but does that mean you'll give up something that you truly love? Of course not. Never said I was bringing down people.

But you are a HS student, who applied to academies, who has not seen OP’s file. Nor attended a academy. Who has been through ONE application cycle.

It’s not for you to judge or opine on a persons competitiveness. And you said that if OP was indeed ‘extremely competitive’, they would hold an LOA. You are simply wrong. And it’s arrogant to infer that someone is better (more competitive) than someone else BC they did hold an LOA. Or multiple offers. Or whatever motivates you to speak on this matter.

This isnt the place to call someone out to ‘face the truth’. And that isn’t even something that you have done BC you are simply WRONG concerning LOA’s.

Believe your BGO.

That pertains to decisions on attending the particular university. Specific offers of scholarships can have earlier deadlines.

If you say that you're an 'extremely' competitive applicant, then you should've gotten an LOA.
OP DID NOT say s/he was an extremely competitive applicant. S/he said the blue gold officer told him/her that. In addition to working on your physical conditioning before reporting to Navy this summer, you should sharpen your "attention to detail" skills.

I apologize for my misuse of words everyone. I'm just a high school student, I know. I'm so sorry again.

I'll take this as a learning experience. I just hope ya'll stop attacking me and get on our ways. I'm sorry again.

Nobody was attacking you. They were defending others.
A little bit of fatherly advice... The internet is not as anonymous as we all wish it would be. Assuming that you are from Guam, it will be very easy for upperclassmen to figure out who you are. Why make life harder for yourself Plebe year? Be humble, and be a team player. Good luck to you.

I am going to give free Friday mama advice. Words, actions and choices all have consequences. Whether or not you approve of the effect of your words is irrelevant. No one attacked you. That isn't the environment of the forum. Communication as a future Naval officer requires thoughtful word choice. I give this advice to my 4 sons and all of the children I teach but today it was delivered especially for you.
