Which courses should I request if I plan in reapplying next year?

I got a TWE and am going to reapply. Will be attending Virginia Tech for a year (unless I get another TWE)
 
At some schools, freshmen can find it hard to get into one or more of the plebe courses. It's really, really important to do everything you can to make those work. This is particularly true for calc, chem and English (with writing). If you find you are unable to get into one of these courses, physics is probably an OK substitute. But I would encourage you to contact you RD if this occurs and discuss your best options rather than guess (and guess wrong).

Also, I had a successful reapplicant from VT about a decade ago. Achieved a 4.0 in first year of an engineering major. Also did extremely well at USNA (has long since graduated). So it can definitely be done.

So if I work my ass off first year at VT, and keep a 4.0, do you think I'll have pretty good chances?
 
I think it will give you a fighting chance. Remember it’s still about the whole person. Is it a 4.0 in Plebe like schedule, improved test scores, continue to volunteer and find an ECA? If yes to all that then you have a great shot. There is no black and white answer to this.

What's an ECA? Extra curricular? Assuming I did courses similar to a plebe schedule, maintained a 4.0, retook and improved my ACT, joined a debate club, held a job, and improved my CFA would you say that's pretty good?

Only thing I'm kinda worried about is writing my personal statement because I thought it was pretty good, so the fact that I have to change the entire thing kinda scares my but I'm sure I'll come up with something as I work my way in VT
 
Why wouldn’t you want to change it? If you got the TWE this year and have matured a year, gone to college and done well, why wouldn’t you want to tell that sorry about how you took the ‘not yet’ and made it a positive? This will be a massive year of growth. Like I said, there is no... you do this, you will get in. Read the info available and make a path.
 
A well-done year in College with a tough schedule is better than a High School standout. After a year in college - you prove that you can handle the class work - which is nothing like High School.
I believe that college re-applicants have an edge, because of this.
 
Remember, you are trying to demonstrate to the Admissions Board that you can handle all aspects of a MIDN's schedule. The more closely you can align and execute that pseudo-MIDN-like schedule to perfection, the easier it is for your record to speak for itself and build that confidence with admissions. That includes academics, ECAs/leadership activities, job, athletics/sports, etc. I would argue it isn't "good enough" just to perform in the classroom....you need to show that you manage a full schedule of classes/activities. Think about certain college clubs, ROTC activities, intramurals/local road races, etc. If possible, try to get in leadership positions -- but that is understandably harder as an entering college freshman. You are trying to show you can handle MIDN life, which isn't limited to JUST academics.

I tell my reapplication candidates to wait a bit to do their Personal Statement ..you will find something in your first few months of college to write about. Write about personal growth, commitment to service, etc. The one thing you want to avoid is simply repeating what you wrote before --
