New Student Indoctrination (Summer 2019)

Does anyone know if NROTC Great Lakes NSI will offer photo or video packages like SA do for plebe summer?

Hello. On the health form it asks for a sponsor? It seems to incline towards a retired or active duty member of the Armed Forces. Do I find a sponsor or does the NROTC unit find a sponsor?

Does anyone know the logistics for those who fly in? The Welcome letter says candidates traveling by air can expect to travel the day prior to the start of NSI. Does the Navy coordinate the overnight stay and transportation after landing at O'Hare or do the candidates manage that on their own?

Kinnem called it. Last year DS was sent flight info, he navigated O’Hare (which has two USOs, he was sent from the closest one to the one outside TSA security), where he waited for the critical mass to load a bus. He was bussed by the Navy, in other words. I don’t think he slept the first night as Great Lakes has its unique intake process.

As Kinnem mentioned, you will be informed. You will not be making any travel arrangements beyond how to get to the initial airport. And if I recall correctly you can submit receipts for reimbursement of that. But don’t assume this... you will be informed.

My mom-impression was that it was actually really well organized even if the travel info didn’t come out early.

DD got her dates for Great Lakes today. June 30th - July 24th. We're trying to figure out as well if new should attend I Day or Grad day. We live in Virginia so there will be some traveling involved.

@rviad92o Assuming you meant you were wondering if you should attend, I wouldn't given that distance. If you're retired and have nothing but time on you hands go for it. If your kid really wants you to attend, go for it. If you really, really want to attend then go for it. Otherwise I don't think I wqould bother, but that's just me. There will be other opportunities to see some pageantry and be supportive.

June 30th through the 24th? I thought the dates were the 2nd through 22nd of July?

My daughter has a NROTC scholarship to Ohio State. We just sent all her paperwork in today to OSU, but I vaguely remember seeing something about a sports physical needing to be completed at least 90 days prior to going to NSI. Now I can't find where I found that. Does anyone know? It's not on the NROTC OSU page. She orginially got a scholarship to UVA NROTC, so I'm wondering if it was in that paperwork.

She needs a sports physical and immunization records when they report to NSI. We also submitted to them to our battalion as well this week.

Thanks! I sent in the immunizations. She'll have to get in for another sports physical because her high school one was done almost a year ago!

Our DD NROTC Scholarship at OSU as well. It was not in her initial paperwork packet sent via email but we have one from April and high school track season. Hoping to just send that along. She did submit vaccinations. We live in Columbus and are planning on attending her graduation from NSI. She is attending June 30- July 22 session.

Please report back since NSI is so new. I imagine the experience you pass on will help others make an informed decision in the future. Hope you have a great time!

DD just told me you don't need a physical that DoDMERB covers it. If that's complete you shouldn't have to bring a physical.

FYI: Wording on sports physical information:
r Sports Physical-A sports physical (regardless if you have completed your DoDMERB physical or received a BUMED waiver) must be completed no earlier than 90 days of your arrival to New Student Indoctrination. You must bring a copy with you to NSI.

^ No wriggle room there. Bring a physical report, regardless.

So....my daughter is in the second session of NSI - are the Ohio State NROTC kids not all attending the same session?
