09R Freshman and ROTC: Questions

Alright so basically, I'm technically not a freshman, I have 26 credits already but am still going to be attending college for another four years. I am transferring to The Citadel military college next semester for their nursing program. Currently, I'm set up as a 4-year student because I haven't taken any classes pertaining to my major. Now, I am doing Army ROTC, applying for a 4 year ROTC scholarship with the National Guard, making me committed for 8 years, also, I'm joining the Guard as an 09R.
I've seen a few threads, but I really need some clarification on this since my recruiter really doesn't have the detailed answers I want since he was never an 09R or went to college.
So here it is:
Can someone clarify for me whether or not this is a good idea? I wanted to join the Guard to work in the military while also going to school, I was super pumped to go to basic. Then my recruiter said that I'm not going because of it not being required for 09R so now I'm going to be doing what over the summer exactly?
Following around an officer in an NG unit?
What exactly are my responsibilities?
Are they going to teach me everything I need to know about being in the military or is that ROTC's job?
If that's the case, will I not be allowed to be assigned a unit and start working until I've started at my college?
I understand that I would be non-deployable, and since I'm not allowed to go to basic, I don't get the GI bill or anything, so I'm enlisted in a placeholder MOS: so I'm technically not part of the military? Or... am I?
For the 4 years I will be an 09R, will my responsibilities grow or will I just be doing the same thing for 4 years straight until I graduate?
If anyone has some first-hand experience in this, I'd really like some info, I just wasn't provided enough of the detail I want in order to make the right decision.

Have you reached out to ROTC unit at Citadel to get their thoughts? They might be rather busy right now with commissioning and graduation and summer camp.

I can say the Nursing program at Citadel is excellent.

I have already arranged everything with ROTC, got it all finished with Mr. Nelson actually. I have asked my recruiter questions about this, but as I said, I'm really not getting the kind of detail I want. I'd like to know that I'm going to be getting some really valuable experience from being an 09R.
I can correct this though: My recruiter said that I won't be contracting until August because they would want to put me on a "training timeline" and it would conflict with my school schedule. So half of my question was answered, and I feel good about that.
I guess now I'm just looking for other 09R's that can share their experience or maybe I should just wait and see what August brings?
At this point, I feel pretty good about my decision after speaking with my recruiter again. And I appreciate you guys stopping to take a look.
