Is it worthwhile to join the USNA Alumni Association as a new 2023 class midshipmen? The brochure included in the PTR notes an Induction Day Picnic. Do family members generally attend the picnic? Before I register and pay for the picnic lunch, I wanted to inquire. Thanks.

Mid should join the Alumni Association for all of the benefits you’ll get over your lifetime. You won’t fully understand the value while you’re a mid. You will once you graduate. Seems like a lot of money on I-Day but it is a lifetime membership and you never have to pay again. I haven’t regretted it for a minute.
Lots of families attend the picnic - I think it often sells out. Good opportunity to meet other families. However, there is no pressure/requirement to attend, so if you don’t want to go, then don’t. You can also buy food at Dahlgren Hall or go out in town.

The picnic is wonderful. Parents will meet peers from other companies and states. And if you should meet some from your plebe’s company or state, all the better. It’s a great way to start feeling like part of the USNA “family.” Plus there’s free schwag from various vendors associated with USNA.
Add in the plebe summer photos — “Forget Waldo! Where’s my kid?” — and it’s all well worth it.
