Hello! My name is Hannah and I’m currently a Junior in High School.
For a little more depth I am also Asian.
I really want to attend West Point, but my stats are lacking..
My GPA is a 3.3 (I have taken 5 AP classes, including World History, Enviromental Science, Calculus AB, Psychology, and United States History.) (Next year I will be taking 3 AP’s)
Outside of school I participate in an orchestra, and have been competitively swimming for 6 years. In high school I received the MVP award this year, and got 3rd place at regionals both sophmore and junior year.
My GPA is a bit low because Sophmore year I struggled from bullying.
I am confident that I will be captain of the swim team Senior year.
My SAT score is a 1400.
I do realize I am not the ideal candidate, but I am confident I can pass the Physical Examination.
I can run a mile in around 6 minutes, do the required number of sit ups and push-ups, etc.
I am just concerned because I know I lack leadership skills, and realize my GPA is very low.
I am planning to submit my CQ in July.

Please give me advice! Is there a chance I will be admitted?
Thank you!

I think you don't need to wait until July to submit the questionnaire since you can always update your information. When I filled it out they got back to me pretty quickly with info to get into the application website.
For leadership, they got this summer camp called Boys State and Girls State in each state that adds points to your application. Depending on your state, the applications may still be open possibly.

Apply.

Your numbers are in the spectrum for the Academies.

Look at this recent class profile for appointees and see how many of the categories you can tic off.

Keep working. Develop a plan B. Apply for ROTC scholarships.
Keep taking the SAT to bump your scores.

You'll be fine.

Best of Luck!
Go Army!

I also went through the process that you are about to face. I don't have the authority or anything to back my information up, so take my advices with a grain of salt.

  1. Always be on time with your app. Do not wait until a certain day to submit anything either CFA, Recommendations, SAT scores, etc. Send all of it as soon as possible. The EARLIER, the BETTER. (BUT make sure everything is RIGHT)
  2. Work on your weaknesses. If you don't have any leadership, then get leadership. West Point wants a leader either in school or community. They want to accept leaders who are dedicated in service.
  3. Have grit. This is important because you will face a lot of barriers through out your application process, but you will have to keep going and do your best in everything that you do. Get out of your comfort zone.
  4. Quality over Quantity. Work on things that will benefit you and help boost your application. Do things that you love doing, not do everything without enjoying them. Do things that are educational, service to school or community, and anything according to what they want. Don't do unnecessary things.
  5. SLE. This program will tell you if you still want West Point or not, although, acceptance to the program does not mean a higher chance of getting an appointment. If you get in, great. If not, don't sweat about it. Keep going.
  6. Lastly, enjoy your high school life. You will only be in high school for once. I know that you want to prioritize your applications, but you should also look into enjoying your time in high school.

I believe you can do it with your determination, grit and love. When you fall, stand back up again and keep moving forward.

What is a reasonable time to submit everything? I am planning to submit my CQ in July because I am taking the SAT in June. I will gradually submit recommendations, etc following the start of my senior year. Is that too late?

Thank you for your reply and advice!

Do they ask for GPA/SAT scores in the CQ?
