LEAD Program C/O 2023 Thread

For those who have gotten accepted:

Prior to leaving your base, if you have not already had an initial EPR completed it is very important that you do so.

Here’s why:
For whatever reason you decide to leave USAFA or the Prep school, retraining or returning to your career field will be much easier.
If you don’t not have one when you arrive it is difficult to get one because of our AFSC code as a cadet or cadet-candidate. There is nothing tangible to be put on and EPR.
Keep your options open, and push for it to get done before you leave.

Here’s how:
Commanders can request from AFPC to have an evaluation accomplished at any point in an enlisted members career.

Explain the safety net of the EPR to your supervisor and I would assume that will be on board.

Let me know if you have any questions!

I did it! I received an email this morning about an update on the portal regarding about an offer to attend the Prep School. I opened it, then it said that I got offered to attend the Prep School. It wasn't my commander who notified me, and I didn't know if my leadership knew prior. So I suggest to keep checking your emails and your portal. It was a long wait, but it is very rewarding. For those who didn't get it, keep applying and until you've exhausted your tries, find other ways because we have a lot of opportunities. Thank you very much for everyone's help, and I look forward to meeting you all!

I have a question for you guys regarding the af form 4428. I was told by my ALO that my chain of command would accomplish this instead of my ALO like it states on the appointee kit. I was wondering if anyone can help me confirm this.

That's the tattoo form, right? My ALO signed mine

So it seems to me that my ALO is trying to avoid signing it. Could I use my CoC to get this accomplished instead of my ALO?

My form says it will be signed by my direct supervisor and first sgt. (This is shown when I open the actual form)

For the Tricare registration, did you use your personal or military email?

Has anyone gotten orders or seen their assignment showing in MILPDS? It looks like it was around 17 May last year (according to old forum posts) that AFPC pushed the assignments out last year. USAFA cadet admissions did not have an expected date from AFPC. Was wondering if anyone saw (or heard) anything different.

Hey! So I notice basic ends like beginning of August and Parents wkd/start of school isnt til end of August...but what happens the 3 weeks in between? Do parents usually come out for graduation from basic? Do cadets go home for a few days? Or is it just 3 weeks of in-processing/getting settled in dorms?

There was like a two and a half day break between basic training ending and classes beginning. Most of that time is spent with briefs and doing your best to catch up on the homework thats due at class. A lot of it is online homework that'll make you feel the same way you do when your doing a CBT except you can't skip through it easily. (math, chemistry ect...).

The first couple weeks of school are real basic classes designed to figure out what "speed" you are. Throughout the rest of the year students will slowly branch off into varying skill levels of classes. Note: just because your in a "slow" track does not mean you are any less likely to go to the hill. They ultimately care most about whether your GPA meets the minimum requirement of 2.42. (or so they claim, we haven't found out yet if were even accepted).

Finally, Your parents are welcome to come and visit your BMT graduation. There is a ceremony for it. But for most of the priors i would make the claim that prep school BCT graduation here is lame compared to our first BMT. If your parents have to choose between one or the other, tell them to come down for parents weekend because you wont be able to go off base until then anyway. Like you said, Parents Weekend is a couple weeks after basic ends.

I called USAFA Prep and asked them about our orders and what I gathered is to complete your paperwork on your portal ASAP. Our orders will not get processed until the Authorization to Travel is approved. The POC said it could take three weeks until the orders are published, after everything is complete.

If you want to call them for clarification or other questions, their number is (719) 333-2580.

Current Preppie Prior here; anyone interested in buying the book set from me? It cost roughly $1000 to buy them at the beginning of the year, and the Book Buy Back isn't going to give us near that much for them back. If anyone is willing to pay $600 for them, it would be everything you need for the first and mostly everything for second semester provided you don't do any enrichment classes.

I called the number and asked how the process works, specifically. On our Cadet Candidate Kit, the instructions say that we have to out-process through our MPS, and once our out-processing is complete, then we get issued orders. This goes against what the people from the PS are saying, and they told me to call the Admissions office because they would know more. The person from the PS says that it would take about a month to get orders, which doesn't give us much time.

Does anyone know the specific process of how we are supposed to handle out processing?

Normally your assignment has to be loaded in MILPDS by AFPC first. Without this information your base personnel office will not know what to do for you and will not be able to do any official outprocessing. Once your assignment is loaded, you have to accept it, then MPF then opens your virtual outprocessing checklist and then creates your orders in conjunction with AFPC. The base agencies go into vMPF to sign you off on your virtual outprocessing checklist as you complete the tasks and contact them. Sometimes those agencies might ask you for a copy of your orders. You would then have a "final out" appointment at the MPF before you leave your base. You may be able to get some things done early in your unit - final EPR, gov't travel card, etc before an assignment is loaded. It is not accurate to say that you get your orders after your outprocessing is complete because some agencies need your orders to sign off your outprocessing checklist. The actual orders only take as long as the MPF allows them to take. The summer is a busy move time for the entire Air Force. That said, I have seen orders done in a day when people are properly motivated. If you are having problems let your chain know as soon as you do. They can motivate the right people if necessary.
