When my son attended USNA, at the end of plebe summer they have what’s called plebe parent weekend. Plebes were granted leave from the yard to spend time with family for the weekend. Does the USCGA swab summer program do the same at the completion of their swab summer?

I have not seen that on any of the schedules. As far as I know, the swabs become cadets and get their 4/c shoulder boards, then launch into cadet administrative processing (CAP) week. As a result, I have no plans to visit with DD again until parent weekend in October.

No - they roll right into the school year, but they will likely have leave Labor Day weekend unless restricted, on duty or involved in a fall sport.

Thanks. I didn’t think there was anything like that for the end of swab summer. It’s too bad, it was One of my favorite visits at the Naval Academy while my DS was there. It gave him a chance to decompress from a long summer and the opportunity to share some great stories with us. Looks like I’ll have to wait till Labor Day weekend to have the same experience with my DD. Well worth the wait.

Although not guaranteed by the regs as some longs are, traditionally, the weekend at the end of CAP week is a long.

In past years that Saturday is the run through New London. They have received a few hours off on Sunday. Could be the same this year but who knows for sure. Semper Gumby.

Are Swabs given liberty that weekend, if it granted?
It is the weekend after CAP - they will no longer be Swabs but full members of the Corps and therefore receive the long with anybody else, assuming they do not have duty and are not restricted (no reason they should be restricted less than a week in).

Sorry the swab run is the weekend prior to CAP week. Misread previous posts.
