Any recommendations for underwear during Basic Training? Are compression shorts beneficial?

Yes, you definitely want to purchase *black* compression shorts. You will wear these for all 4 years at WP.

Ever hear the term “going commando”? Interesting option if Army-issue knickers or your own compression shorts don’t work.

Dry fit compression shorts. Wash em in the shower, quick air dry.
Weigh little - bring lots.

DS was told not to bring anything with logos or lettering on it last year. The only place we could find All Black(with no lettering) dry-fit compressions was actually Walmart. I think the brand was Athletic, which may be Walmart's value brand, because they were only about $10.00 for a 3-pack. He took nine of them to beast and asked for nine more in one of the letters he sent home during beast. He said some cadre were more relaxed about name brand lettering, but his was not, and the goal at beast (and for much of plebe year) is to not stand out. He said this brand is not as thick and heavy as his Nike and New Balances, but that was actually good for beast; you'll be surprised how hot and humid it gets at Buckner. He still uses the nine we sent after beast. Hope this helps.

Often the cadets that have some logo on the compression just take a black sharpie to the logo. It's a simple solution and beats making yourself crazy trying to find a brand with no logo/lettering on it.

Hahaha! This tread cracks me up. Every year this becomes a hot topic.

This and the deep discussions on boots! Then again, happy feet, happy wearer.

Hey shock-n-awe and tug_boat, what's up with these passive aggressive, snarky comments? The only purpose they seem to serve is to stifle questions that YOU find laughable. That flies in the face of the purpose of this site. Well done.

I have no idea what you’re referring to by calling me out on being snarky.
My comment
^^^^^^this was simply concurring with the prior post mentioning using a sharpie to color out any logos so they are concealed. I was merely doubling down on a useful tactic that would be helpful to people.
I did it with a straight face and never cracked a smile ....because I didn’t see it as funny or laughable.
My only apology is that you didn’t find it useful....too bad

I stand corrected, shock-n-awe. My apologies for misinterpreting your post. I suppose translating internet shorthand isn't my strong suit, and I'll be more careful in the future. That said, your explanation sure was a lot less ambiguous.

I chuckled at the underwear post as well. I remember being so caught up in how many pairs of underwear, socks. What type. Color. On and on. I found most of what i bought left in my sons room. I think socks and underwear is a coping method for new cadet moms. We can only do so much for our DS and DD so we focus on what we can "help" with.
