Mid store shopping before and on I Day

There wasn't a parent packet this year. Parent stuff was included in the PTR

Should we assume then that the card has been discontinued as well? We dissected the entire PTR again, and found nothing related to the store (in mine).

You can call the Mid Store tomorrow and inquire. Asking specifically how your parents shop at the Mid Store the week of Iday.

Maybe there won’t be a card needed at all anymore. As I said, I didn’t have mine with me last year and had no problem. I guess it’s safe to assume that all people there during that time are there for a Plebe.

Hmmm... I don't know where, but for some reason/somewhere I had gotten the impression that the shopping card was coming in the 2nd mailing with our P2B's company and address and such - ?

That's how it worked last year.

Probably true -- Enforcement of the limited access seems pretty lax. I was in Annapolis a month or so ago. When we went to the Midstore, my wife and daughter came in and went out several times unescorted and without being challenged. No one asked for ID or anything when we checked out either. It's also been pretty lax when I was there for Reunions -- I presume they just assume everybody is a grad.

The truth is , I suspect that plebes to be , and parents, really don't meet any of the posted requirements for using the Midstore until the moment of induction (i.e. not active duty, retirees, not Alumni, etc). Of course, I'm sure there is something about "discretion of the Superintendent" or something to that effect built into the Instruction, and also a safe bet that the Midstore isn't going to pass on I-day revenue.

This year's PTR didn't have any extra "parent stuff" than it usually does. There may still be a Parent packet coming, in the past, about a week before IDay, we were sent a packet with the company/platoon info, welcome letter, Iday schedule, map of Annapolis and area, and the temporary Mid Store Card/ Midstore Visitor center hours and info/discount card. It is possible they are sending this in an email this year, but my guess is the email will have attachments.

Last time I was in the midstore, they didn't check id coming in, but they check for membership card, parent card, or MID's id card when you purchase something.

I wouldn't assume this yet. The two cards weren't related in any way. It wouldn't have been in the PTR. It usually comes later.

My Mid's PTR packet did not have a temporary shopping card. However, I carried a copy of the PTR Letter which the Midstore accepted as proof I was a MidDad.

Yep had to buy a small suitcase while I was out there. Those darn class blankets!

Wait till you have to take all that issued Plebe year gear home over the summer! Needed a SUV and roof rack and still could not see out the rear view mirror. Yes they get a locker, but try fitting three seasons of uniforms and all issued gear in that. Some Plebes can combine and rent storage. If you can take it home they can take back only what they need for the next season uniform change and it is a lot easier. Believe me there are closets full at home during four years. Good luck to all Plebes to Be and more to Parents.

It’s tragic the stuff that gets tossed. Hopefully there are dumpster divers that are allowed to get some of that repurposed/reused. Common with all college move outs I know, but at XXX college, the dumpster divers are there waiting.

Was in the Mid Store on Friday when I met my son at the end of Block 1 - it is WELL STOCKED!!!! Enjoy shopping, 2023 parents! I second the suggestion to bring an extra duffle bag - it's hard to resist all the fun stuff - especially anything that has 2023 on it! Enjoy!!!

Nothing issued gets dumped unless they want to purchase later when needed. It's not San Francisco or New York no dumpster diving allowed without proper security clearance.

God how I miss the mid store. Not only to stock up on USNA gear, but on visits where we found we forgot something sunglasses, sneakers anything the mid store is your best solution. Good luck new USNA parents!

To clarify, I was referring to the full bottles of cleaning supplies, boxes of snacks and Gatorades, all the peripheral stuff DS talked about that was tossed because they can fit it in anywhere to store. Including the car to the sponsors house. Lots and lots of that kind of thing in the dumpsters. Not talking about uniforms or stuff they are issued. It’s unfortunate that good stuff cant get donated somewhere. I get it, not unique to USNA.
