Oh great and wise 1C, 2C and 3C parents~ where did you take your PC for dinner on Sat. night of PW? Did you stay near Great Neck or venture into the city? What time did you make your reservations for? Is it a place you would return to? Have you found a better place during subsequent visits?

Thanks for all your suggestions!:thumb:

We ate at Louie's Oyster Bar and Grilled in Port Washington last year. DD loves seafood and doesn't quite trust the fish in Delano. DD was not the only plebe in whites there that night. They have a website with menus.

restaurants...

all depends on what you are looking for. We live on Long Island, so we had many options. My guy wanted STEAK, which in the KP area means one of three places - Peter Luger, Morton's, or Burton & Doyle. We opted for B&D. Be forewarned, though - these are top end NY steakhouses with prices to match.
There are many other choices - let me know what kind of food you are looking for and PM me; I will try to give you some recommendations.

Our son wanted to go into the city...which we did..to Little Italy. What a treat. It was in the City he realized how respected the white uniform is. There were so many people that came up to him and shook his hand, said kind words, etc. It made the hard days of plebedom have meaning when he recalled the way the folks of NYC treated him that first night out.

Leave it up to your DS or DD about where to go. They may want to go into the city or may want to order pizza in the room.

Thank you wise and wonderful midshipmen parents.:thumb:We couldn't have made it this far as sanely as we have without your help. We bow in your forum presence. KP13mom you are a riot with your words. We have to meet!

Asian Food

If your DS or DD wabts some asian cusine you do not need to go into Manhattan itself. Flushing has some of the best asain food. I know of a Korean BBQ and a soup Dumpling resteraunt. for the exact locations give a pm to my dad lgottliebdds.

Maybe we can get a group to go together. Soup dumplings, Korean BBQ, Bens Deli, Japanese Food. My DS is going to have a tough choice.

Be aware that while you may think going out as a group sounds like great fun, your plebe may just want to crash at the hotel and have pizza. They may just want to escape and be with family rather than dealing with meeting new people. Please follow their lead.

Absolutely it is totally up to what our DS wants to do. He will probably change his mind many times. It is definitely his lead.

So... my 2 cents

So short and sweet in our case following our son's and his classmates wishes here's what they wanted to do for their 20 or so hour of freedom that they spent with us...

We stayed at the Marriott Uniondale so neither right around KP or in the city, it's ~14 miles away. After checking in to the hotel the boys wanted to change out of their uniforms and be "regular folks" for a while and rest for about an hour.

We then went to dinner, they wanted Thai food so we asked the concierge for a recommendation, he was Asian and on seeing my son's friend was from Singapore he directed us to an authentic place in his neighborhood about 8 miles further west in Hicksville, He warned me and my wife the food would be hot and spicy. We went there. No reservation needed, not overly crowded and very good. The price was between $100 - $120 all in for dinner for 5 including a couple of drinks. We all enjoyed our meals and between my son's friend and the waitress my wife and I were properly guided through the menu.

We then went back to the hotel and relaxed for about another hour before the boys asked if they could go to a movie, we (Wife and I) asked if we could all go - we did. The movie was something fun but not memorable, it was relaxing for us all. We then went back to our two rooms at the hotel and everyone crashed for a good night's sleep. Probably the first uniterupted 10+ hours they had in over a month and half.

We got up and went to a large brunch at the hotel, by then it was like 2:00PM; we checked out of the hotel, and then they wanted to go and buy a few things nothing exotic just stuff they couldn't get easily at the NEEX. We found it all at Waldbaums in Manhasset. We goofed off a while and before you knoew it they wanted to go back to KP which we did - droped them off close to 1800. After we left them, they found out they had extended lib so they went into Great Neck together and got dinner, we go a cell phone call as we drove down the NJTP home - DS was most thankful and grateful for a relaxing weekend doing wha the and friend wanted, instead of a big deal.

I think lots of folks have similar underlying experiences of their own, in many cases this won't be the weekend they want to go wild, rather they might just want to relax and have asimplier family experience. That was ours.

I am looking foward to a low key day with a COSTCO and/or Walmart run thrown in just like visiting day at camp
