Hi There! I am new to this group/ page and have enjoyed the plethora of valuable information shared. Thank you!
Our daughter will be attending NSI - Block 1 in 2 weeks as a NROTC- Nursing Option 4 year scholarship winner set to attend the University of Michigan this fall. She transferred her scholarship from UPenn to UMich. We have wondered if this transfer had impacted her communication stream. Though she made this transfer in April her NSI packet came to her via UPenn (email). After a number of contacts, she learned that she was to follow that pathway of UPenn direction but instead submit all of her necessary documents to UMich NROTC rather than the contact info designated as the UPenn point of contact. She flipped the submission immediately to UMich upon learning of the direction. She will bring the required hard copy of that complete bundle to NSI.
She is excited though certainly anxious about the unknown and limited information available as her check in date rapidly approaches. She has reached out to her future unit in the hope she may gain some clarification on final details due to some conflicting information rec'd to date. We will be driving her to NSI and dropping her there on July 2 and picking her up following graduation 3 weeks later. While in early information rec'd there was mention of a provided packing list that would be forthcoming that has since been something we have heard of no further. That said, on the enclosed link it notes that *
Midshipment Candidates that are being dropped off will not be allowed to bring in any outside belongings other than a cell phone and wallet.
Medicine? Feminine hygiene items? General hygiene items? Appropriate lady gear? Dental retainers? I have seen recommendations in the above thread to bring moleskin and good running shoes as "musts" but as I read the above-shared statement there does not seem to be room for said items. This is, however, leaving us a bit perplexed. Maybe that is all part of the gig. Expect the unexpected. Trust the system..... eh. Alas, I think there are some valid clarifications needed. Will cell phone use, in fact, be allowed in down time per the allowance to bring to check in?
Might you all have any intel on this or be able to share feedback? It seems that she is not alone waiting for the previously identified packing list based on what I have read here. Admittedly, this is our first trip to this rodeo.
Are there any other NROTC- Nursing Options 2023 in the mix? Does anyone know how many were awarded this year? Our daughter was also awarded the Army ROTC Nursing Scholarship but it was a fast decision for her to go Navy. This has long been a mission she was working to accomplish. Does anyone have a grasp for if/ how there are any nursing option specfic variances to the NSI and overall NROTC experience?
Thanks!!!! ...so grateful !!!!
*my apologies for my verbose nature here .... cheers.
