219 years ago today the Coast Guard as established as the "System of Cutters", thanks to the hard work of Alexander Hamilton. In the following centuries the Coast Guard would add a multitude of missions to their "seabag". The Coast Guard has served in every war since 1790, fired the first Naval shot of the Civil War, lost the highest percentage of servicemen in WWI, landed the beaches of WWII, and are in the North Arabian Gulf (NAG) today.

With 219 years of service, the Coast Guard is the United States oldest continuous sea going service.

Happy Birthday Coast Guard! :thumb::biggrin:
