The first LOA has been sighted, so the first drip of OFFERS OF APPOINTMENT will not be long in coming. Let’s have another great season of sharing good news!

HOW TO ADD A NAME: This is self-reporting, self-updating and DIY. Mods don't update the list. Kindly posters occasionally do, but the burden falls on posters to copy the list, add their entry and post the updated list.

This is meant primarily to be a list of appointees to USNA (NAPSters should celebrate in their own thread), so we can see the class build. If you have a question to ask, it probably deserves its own thread, and this one can stay relatively true to its purpose.

HOW TO CREATE UPDATED LIST: Copy the most recent list, paste into new post, use the next number, enter your info in a similar format, post. If you don’t do this, and just post an entry and not the updated list, you risk the next poster updating the last list, the one without your name, and leaving you stranded. If this doesn’t work in phone app, go to web view to use Copy, then Paste.

The “QUOTE” function will not get you to the right place to create a new list!

Don’t forget to go back and update Undecideds! Same drill - Copy list, paste into new thread, update your entry, post.

FORMAT:
Next appointment number)SAF forum name/self, DD, DS/LOA or No LOA/Notified of Appointment Date/Accepted or Declined or Undecided/Nom sources, including State, MOC or Sen/Other Nominations/via NAPS, Foundation prep, self-prep, college re-applicant or applicant, direct appoint from HS, enlisted

SAMPLE:
1)Squiddlypop/DD/No LOA/Oct 7, 2019/Accepted/VA-Sen, Presidential Nom/direct appoint

We are into October. It’s time! Looking forward to seeing some appointments noted here, given there are some LOAs floating around.

Best wishes to all those chasing noms and their medical clearances, and those who haven’t knocked out a good CFA yet!

Sorry, got side-tracked. These threads appear every year, for appointments, for prep schools, for ROTC. You can subscribe to the ones in which you are interested, as well as use the Search function.

As the pace heats up, you’ll see new posts just about every day until it finally dries up at cycle end.

@SSSam42
Congratulations!
Please catch us up on a few things, so others know what to expect.

Your actual offer of appointment - did you see something in your portal first? Did you receive something in the mail, the famous BFE, Big Fat Envelope? Things do change from year to year on occasion, so it’s good to have an early indication of what it looks like this year for those receiving offers of appointment.

I’m intrigued by the nom info you indicated. How did you know you had gotten a Supe’s nom? Process of elimination, because you did not list your other noms you might have earned, such as Presidential, VP, Sen, Rep, JROTC/ROTC, other Service-connected noms? Or is it actually indicated in your portal? That’s huge if you got one of those. I always thought that handful of noms was held in reserve until late in the cycle. I learn something every cycle.

How long did it take from when you received a Letter of Assurance to when you fulfilled all specified conditions and received an actual offer of appointment? Clearly you are one of the lucky ones to have gotten your application completed and cleared DODMERB and CFA hurdles.

Your feedback will be invaluable to others navigating this process.

Thank you so much! I will say that my appointment experience is probably different from others. I received an email from the Director of Nominations and Appointments on 10/11, asking if I would like to commit now as the 1st Appointment of the year. They said the 1st person has to accept the offer. After lots of back and forth (and me accepting), I found out on 10/15 that I had been appointed through email. The USNA Superintendent nominated me because of this unusual circumstance. The portal updated on 10/17, and I received a long email with lots of information about the Academy. I don't know much about the Superintendent's nomination; do they usually go to specific candidates, like recruited athletes?

I submitted all of my application materials on 08/16 (I did the CFA at NASS) and received my LOA on 08/22. The eye exam was on 08/12, and the medical exam was on 08/19.

I'm very excited and humbled by this opportunity. Good luck to everyone else applying!

Thank you for providing the insight into a truly unique path to an appointment, and congratulations again. I believe you win the lottery with a USNA version of a Disney FastPass.

Enjoy the rest of the school year, spend quality time with family and friends, stay healthy, and run every day and work on core exercises. You are a bit of time from getting your Permit To Report info, but here’s a link to a past PTR. They don’t change much from year to year.

You can learn a lot about key dates, Plebe summer and other info for the incoming class by browsing the threads that sprout up in the spring of each year here in the USNA forum. The dates will differ each calendar year, but you will see the rhythm.

No pressure to do well there, SSSam42

Congratulations to you.
Also, you registered in April of 2016 and you listed "direct appointment", so this is the first time you have applied. Yesterday was your first post after more than three years as a member of the forums. I recently celebrated my 2nd year as a member here and clearly have found it hard not to post.
I have to hear your story.

@SSSam42 .... when did you sit down with your BGO? What parts of your application did you have submitted before 8/16? I find it unusual that the eye exam is 8/12, before you submitted your application on 8/16. This is an interesting mousetrap.

You only have to have 50% of your application completed to complete the medical exams. I had my eye exam in August but I didn’t complete the rest of my application until the end of September.
