So I just learned my practices are going to be 3 hours after school during winter season which is coming up pretty quickly. The big problem with this is I have 2 hour practices right now and I'm barely finishing my work on time. I've put my phone away and don't touch it for the whole day and start doing homework in school, but I still have trouble finishing it. Every weekend I've had to cancel some plans with my family/friends/team just so I can get work done. Do you guys have any advice that can help me with this problem (General time management, prioritizing, study tips)? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a few suggestions

Try to figure out WHY your homework is taking so much time- is it taking everyone else the same amount? If so there likely isn’t much you can do in the way of study tips to speed up. If not- see what you can do to be more efficient when you are doing homework. Are you going online at all? Are there distractions (people talking, siblings etc)? Make sure you are doing homework like you would take a test, maybe try headphones and music (no lyrics) to block out distractions. Do your hardest homework first, unless you get stuck, then switch to something easier and go back (just like you would on a test)

What kind of homework takes most of your time? Math? Science? Reading assignments for history, English etc? Study strategies vary by subject

Finally- my recommendation is to use the first part of every weekend to get ahead on next week’s work. This is what I did in high school, college, and as a PhD student. It is SO worth it to get up a little early on Saturday (same time you would on a school day) and knock out your toughest work for the next week. Then you can enjoy your weekend and still be on top of things. I do not recommend waiting till Sunday- that just adds stress and makes you less able to focus

Well the English is taking everyone's time so there isn't much I can do about it. The order in doing the homework you proposed makes a lot of sense compared to what I'm doing where I leave all the hard one for the end and get stuck on them so I'll definitely try that. I'll also invest in some good earbuds/headphones and play some jazz or something. Thanks for the help

Read this book: How to Become a Straight-A Student: The Unconventional Strategies Real College Students Use to Score High While Studying Less by Cal Newport. It helps you with things like time management and how to figure out what to write about for a paper, etc.

I'll definitely look into that

Anything you can get done during the day is free hours in the evening, so be alert for any unclaimed time in class, over lunch, during homeroom, on the bus, waiting for practice to start or any other dead time more than five minutes long. Piece these together and use them to knock off any easier homework that doesn't require full concentration. If you find you have to work hard on math then save it for evening when you can bear down, but the bar is far lower for banging out one paragraph reacting to an assigned video or doing a quick 5-10 minutes of language flashcards.
