I know the essay scores for the SAT USMA is looking for, but how about ACT? I believe I got a 7 and it’s out of 12.

USMA will look at your ELA score (English+Reading+Writingx3). DS has English 36 + Reading 33 + writing 9 (27) = 96 divided by 3= 32 ELA

Found out DS needs to take the SAT one more time, this time with essay. He took the SAT w/o essay twice and took the ACT three times , once with essay. Candidate Tech is telling him to use his SAT score since it the better of the two (1400 SAT vs 31 ACT + 9 writing), but now he needs to take the SAT one more to get a writing score. Luckily he found out with enough time to signup for the Dec. SAT. Moral of the story.. include the essay at least once for both SAT and ACT.

I'm currently a cadet, and I had a 30 composite on the ACT with a writing score of 7. ACT weighs heavily in your application but well-roundedness is important as well.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but DS got his worst ACT composite on the same test he had his best writing score. Should he forwarded that score because of the writing? All the other sections are lower than what has been already reported. Thank you!

We ended up having to do just that because DD had a 10 on one test with a lower composite, but she got her best overall test the next time she took it (but she didn't do the writing portion because she had done so well the previous test.) It is what it is. One thing she learned was that length matters! The first time she did the writing test, she worked to craft a great 5 paragraph essay (it wasn't very long) and got a lowish score. The next time, she wrote for both content and volume and improved. The last time, she did the above, but also was able to tie in an example from science history to support her thesis and received the 10.

Thanks for the info. He already submitted two ACT scores, so this would be a 3rd (and his composite is a full 4 points lower than the 2 submitted), and his writing is 2 points higher. I guess I struggle trusting the Superscore policy - like do they really only look at the highest in each section?

I think someone more knowledgeable than I will have to answer. I 'm sure they take a look at all the sub sections in all tests, but I have no idea if it affects their decision making. Surely, they can understand a student just not having a good day in some areas? At least, we hope so! You son's stats were about the same difference as my dd's.
