I know you apply in jan of you junior year but my question is what if you have a good GPA but you test scores aren't the best? Also if i make it past that first questionaire can i update my scores if they get better to increase my chances?

I'm a current applicant. If I remember correctly, the Questionnaire didn't actually ask for GPA, although there could be changes upcoming since I heard this year, WP is considering GPA more than it did in the past. The Questionnaire did ask for sports, extracurriculars, personal information, school, and self-report test scores. You can update the information afterwards if your scores or other info changes.

You can open an application file in January of your junior year by applying for SLE.

When my DD applied last year, the actual USMA online application didn’t open until August when she was about to start senior year.

You can continue to update your ACT/SAT scores by having the testing agency send your scores to USMA. It is to your advantage to test multiple times as USMA superscores.

Standardized test scores will matter a lot. They are what delineates and ‘standardizes’ differing high school course rigors (among other things), allowing for a better comparison of a candidates aptitude.

Different for years going forward is the change to the ACT that will allow for single subject testing. I don’t know how that will be done as I have checked out of that discussion since DS is my youngest and am SO HAPPY to be DONE with standardized testing (YAY). Nor do I know how SA’s will treat single subject testing. BUT, it’s prudent to work on getting those scores UP. And you shoot for the absolute BEST you can do. Always. In all things.

The USNA BGO who came to our house "hinted" to my son that a 1500 SAT was their "magic number" that all but "guaranteed" a serious look by Admissions. Obviously NOT a guarantee, but if everything else falls into place and the candidate is otherwise competitive, a 1500 would certainly "grease the skids" for an applicant. They are perhaps 1% more focused on the academic qualifications at USNA, but that's my son shot for (USMA is his #1 choice).

Thank you, that helps give me more time to get my SAT up im aiming for a 1500 Super Score at this moment and time and i was worried about how long i would have to get that up because, this is my dream schools and i would love to attend USMA.

Do you mind me asking what step process you are in at this moment? And do you have any tips or certain clubs i should join?

I'm done with my applications, so right now, so I'm updating things as needed and waiting on word from nominations and from WP. We'll see what happens. :)

I think you should definitely join Nat. Honor Society and apply for Boys State. Also, you should maximize your leadership in all your activities or even start your own club that's meaningful to you. You can also try running for school and class president/council and that sort of thing.

I am starting my own club for outdoors activities ranging from dirtbikes and biking and other things. Thanks for the Boys State idea i would have never thought about that. Good Luck i hope you get in lmk how you do!

What do you mean my self report scores?

There's a space to enter your SAT scores. You don't need to have them reported officially from college board until a little later in the application process.
So for the first questionaire when you make your account you don't officially submit your SAT or ACT scores?

Correct.
This gives USMA the opportunity to save candidates the trouble of sending their scores and writin essays, etc during the full admissions process, if the self reported scores are so low that the candidate is unlikely to be considered competitive for admissions. It is a pre-screening. Everyone can submit the pre-application but some will have to demonstrate better scores before the full application open to them.

I was wondering i have taken the ACT once but i am taking it soon and if i dot get the best scores will i have not be accepted past first step or will i have a while to retake the tests?

DS ordered updated scores to be sent to USMA in the middle of October for a 1 point increase on the ACT math section. They were uploaded pretty quickly, within a week or so I think he said. A few days after being uploaded he received a 3Q letter. Not sure if that 1 point increase had anything to do with the timing of the letter, but definitely didn't hurt, and I would think can only help him if he gets a nomination and ends up on the NWL. Definitely keep updating!

@FLINYYBOY It depends on what your scores are. For the self reported scores, there is a risk it own't open but when you send your new and improved scores, it can open. It is not a one time look and you are finished.
This can happen particularly with self-reported PSAT scores for SLE for example of SATs/ACTs taken early in junior year, if you have not taken test prep class or worked on it, you might send less than your best possible scores.
Send what you have--and let the super score system work in your favor. Even if your scores are low--and you dramatically improve them, that shows grit.

Thank you yeah, i participate in a bunch of sports and leadership groups and i have a 3.96 gpa but my score doesn't show great success. I took a practice SAT today and got a 1340 but thats practice so. But thank you again i understand i have until October to finalize my scores.

Look at the scores from previous classes in the class profile--posted below. Look at the range and average. Your full application should open with a 1340.
You have until the end of the application period of your senior year to post your final SAT score scores.
