My son received his Letter of Assurance late last night. We are extremely proud and excited. His application is complete. He is just waiting for the nomination. My question is, how likely is it that he won't receive the nomination? His interview went perfect, but it isn't a guarantee. Has anyone heard of someone getting an LOA and not receiving the nom.?

Happens every year but most with LOAs will get a nomination.

Congratulate!

Could you post more info about his application timeline? He must be a very competitive candidate.

Thank you for his willing serving our country!

One of the nominating committees will see what admissions sees.

I would make sure the MOCs know he got an LOA.

@A1Janitor That's what we assume as well, but we aren't celebrating until the nom comes through. The LOA stated USAFA will notify all of our MOCs. He has corresponded with one of the nominating committee members previously for Boys State and will be sending an email thanking him and to let him know about the LOA.

Absolutely don’t rely on anyone! That’s a perfect letter.

In every interview my son had - they asked if he had an LOA and another nom.

@richard_miao His application began on July 1st. He attended SS, so the application was open immediately. He finished his essays, LORs, medical, CFA, etc by mid October. His MOC interview was this week, 11/4.
From what we have read, an LOA isn't common, so he must be competitive. We are extremely proud.

@kinnem We are hoping that the MOCs will be notified by USAFA before the nominations are finalized, but just in case, my son will be emailing one of the nominating committee members to inform them. Every little bit counts.

DD also emailed her MOC and Senator contacts; it is good to be as thorough as possible in these final steps!

@Perspectiveusafadad Yes, after a false start LOA that was a "Letter of Intent" and then LOA came about 2 weeks later.
But let's hear about your DS! Anything you are willing to share will be inspiring!

@HCopter That is great! It is such an amazing feeling for them when that letter comes. I was at work, but wife said our DS was so excited he was shaking. It's wonderful to see the hard work start to payoff.
Is there anything specific you would like to know? I can say that as soon as he visited the campus, he knew it was for him. He set his goal and never wavered. He was involved in school and community. He us is in a Varsity sport, as well as outside sports for 8 years. He is also in Civil Air Patrol, created an outreach program for local middle schools, attended Boys State, participated in engineering workshops at local universities, etc. He's worked very hard at all of these.
For my wife and I, it's been like a second job making sure we had schedules posted, dinners on the go, generally making sure he had what he needs, but more importantly, making sure he maintains strong mental health. One of our goals in this process was to make sure he knows how to work hard but balance everything and still have enjoy himself. Of course our part was easy, he did the hard work.

Congrats on the LoA. My daughter received one Saturday. Very exciting! My question is, who would she even go about contacting in the MOC offices? We don’t have contacts there. Interviews are this weekend. :)

google the MOC’s website. They have contact info.

@Jen88 Congratulations! It is so exciting for them. There will definitely be an opportunity for her to bring it up during the interview. If the committee doesn't ask, she will have a chance to add at the end of the interview. It will be a great way to leave them with a positive thought.

@Jen88 , this is my opinion only.

I would leave nothing to chance at this point. Not only email but I FedEx'd (I say I because it's my credit card and I took it to FedEx in the daytime during school), overnight 3pm with signature required. Totally worth the $ for the piece of mind. It's still cheaper than a college application, so you are net positive about $30 if you look at it that way. If your MOC or Senator are local, consider courier as well. We couriered once and FedEx'd once. Depending on where your hub is, it is funny to see things go TX -Memphis - TX when it's only 15 miles away.

Congratulations again!

When you have time, please share some stats or interesting things about your DD!

Just copy the letter and tell them during the interview.

Congratulations. My DD also got an LOA this Saturday before the MOC interview. Waiting for her nomination.
@ususnagir That is wonderful. Congratulations! My DS missed having the LOA by 4 days. But, we'll make sure they know before final decisions are made. Be sure it is mentioned in the interview.

Is your DS a recruited athlete and is he PPQ?
