AROTC Board 2

Aren't you now legally committed to VMI due to ED?

How can you consider OSU et al?
As I understand it, if you apply to early decision and are accepted through early decision you must mail your acceptance forms which has your intended major, signature, medical and insurance info and what not in to VMI along with a deposit of x amount of dollars. This all must be done by February 15th. You would now be expected to attend. However, that deposit is refundable until the day of May 1st. It is my understanding that if you refund your deposit before May 1st you are no longer legally obligated to go.

I thought you were obligated to withdraw all other pending applications if you applied and were accepted ED.

I saw your question and did some reading. VMI expects you to attend there school if you apply and are accepted through ED. But, unless there’s something I’m fine print that says “your required to attend” there’s nothing they can do to make you go other then suing you or black listing you when you don’t show up that fall.

LET ME BE VERY CLEAR, I applied through ED because VMI is my #1 pick. Honestly, if this scholarship thing doesn’t work out, I’d gladly go 60k in debt just to attend. I have no intentions of playing the system. But I was accepted when I applied and I don’t think I received anything saying I was required to withdraw all other applications.

I know we shouldn't be reading too much into this, but I'm gonna read too much into this. I got a new status on my portal today:

Boarded/Under Consideration:
This applicant was boarded on the first Selection Board that convened on 09 DEC 19 and did not receive an offer from that board or are currently being boarded on our Selection Board that convened 13 JAN 20.

Mine now says same thing as well.

See the application for VMI.
#16 specifically states:
"I am applying for early decision and I know if I am accepted, I must withdraw other applications and attend VMI."

Does anybody know how long it takes before the scholarships are announced for a particular board? Since they met yesterday, I would assume that the applicaant portals would start to be updated with the "Winners" today. After all the Winners are picked, I would again assume that the losers or those not yet selected would be would have their portals updated last. I have no idea how long this should take. Also, my understanding is that approximately twice as many scholarships (around 700) are awarded from this second board. Good luck to all.

Your assumptions are not correct. Statuses will change to Boarded/Under Consideration throughout the week. There have, in the past, been some that changed to Boarded. Statuses will not change to Winner until all files have been reviewed by this board. After the board makes there determination and the OML is complete (to include non-winners from last board) the results are reviewed and then statuses change to Winner. There is no set time as to when that will happen, but historically, it has been the FRI after the board is complete. There is a federal holiday on Monday, so that may delay the results a little. FRI is also a training holiday for most active duty folks.

With boards 1 and 2 for AY19-20 and board 1 that was done in December 2019 for AY20-21, the results showed up the Friday after the week the board met.

I’m not positive on this, but it’s not as easy as the board selects winners and then results are posted immediately. As with anything in the Army, the results must be staffed and reviewed by the appropriate directorates with cadet command and then approved by the commanding general before they are published. It’ll take some time.
