How is the travel reimbursement, for travel to the Academy (Candidate Reporting) handled.

1- How/Where to request?
2- When/how is it paid?
3- Is there a deadline for submission?

.......I cannot find anything on the USMMA website or in the paperwork left over from the boy reporting in.

Thanks,

I believe there was information on the back of the orders that they were to have with them on July 9th. Did you check the logging in booklet? It may still be on the website.

My understanding is that the PCs would take care of that during indoc and that it would be deposited into their NFCU accounts. It hasn't shown up in ds's account yet. I know we noted the mileage but I never gave him the info for the tolls since I had to get that off our ez pass. Oops,,,

I would check with your PC.

From the logging in

Found the section on travel expenses:
"TRAVEL EXPENSES You will be reimbursed for official travel only. This includes Incoming Candidate Travel (from your legal home of record directly to Kings Point), Sea Year Travel (from Kings Point directly to Ship, any interport travel and the last ship directly back to Kings Point) and Graduation/Resignation/Disenrollment travel (from Kings Point directly to your legal home of record). You are authorized travel expenses (mileage) at the Government mileage rate of fifty five (55) cents per mile or Government rate by common carrier (whichever is least costly to the Government). ALL TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS FOR OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT TRAVEL MUST BE MADE THROUGH OUR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CENTER, TRAVEL PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 1-850-678-6688. ASK FOR EITHER JENNY, SHERRY OR HOLLY. Travel instructions can be found in your Orders To Report. Orders To Report and receipts must be kept and submitted to obtain travel reimbursements, and will be handed in upon arrival and registration for Indoctrination."

He reported with that portion of the form filled out. God knows what happened to all that paperwork when he was thrust in to the tornado of that first few hours....and days.

The money has not shown up yet. The only thing he knows is that he turned in the paperwork as requested. Kind of hard for a Plebe to go around following up on something like this.....especially after being on his back for a week in Patten with the TypeA flu......and playing catch up.......not impossible.....just another opportunity on the journey to personal responsibility.......It is what it is.....

Thanks for the contacts, I'll pass the info on to him......

Looks like $195 reimbursement for travel from San Diego was deposited in my son's NFCU Account on 8/25.

Our son just sent us a NFCU statement and asked us to put some money in his account so it's not $0. We opened up a transfer acct with USAA using his NFCU acct # and the NFCUs routing #.

How do you know there is money in your son's acct? Is there online viewing? I don't want to send any money if he already has money in that acct from a Monterey to NY travel reimbursement. This may change, but we weren't planning on using NFCU to send money.

I don't know the best way to send him money. He left with like $100 cash and has not asked for anything, other than to get something in his NFCU account, so it is not $0. I'd much prefer to send him money straight to the USAA Prepaid Mastercard we set him up with during high school from his own USAA checking acct. That worked great, and he has always been more conservative spending his own money.

I went back for that 5K fun run and was shocked the next morning at church that he did not want the cash I offered him. NOW THAT WAS A FIRST!

We used paypal to give our DS money into his acct. It may take a few days to transfer, but that always seemed the easiest since we are using our bank here, and he wanted to use NFCU since they were right on campus.

$100.20 reimbursement for travel from DFW was deposited in my son's NFCU Account.

VRSCDX -

NFCU account balances can be checked on line. We are all members of NFCU and our son authorized our access to his account, so when we call up our accounts, his are also listed. This way we can transfer money directly from our account to his.

I'll bet if you check with USAA you'll find you can transfer money from your USAA account directly into his NFCU account. I can pay my USAA Credit Card by transferring money from my NFCU account while on the USAA web site. I can't imagine they don't have the capability to move money the other way.

Hope this makes sense. Dave Wood

We didn't have much success with e-transfers from our bank. We have been able to mail checks direct to the NFCU branch on campus, include the account number and it gets deposited asap. Another possible option for you.

OK - Thanks. USAA says they can transfer money. I think I just need to tell my son to grant us permissions to view his acct. I actually do not think he has given this any thought at all, other than he was told not to have a $0 Balance in his account, which might be fixed if he received a travel reimbursement.

You probably should be on the account. When he goes to sea it may be useful for you to have access.
