Has anyone every had problems with nausea/vomiting during excercise (running) - more than one single occurance?
How did you prevent it?

JAM
is it a new exercise program or more strenuous than it had been? It could be more time is required for conditioning. I would have dry heaves after long distance running just figured it was my body telling me to knock it off. if it's a new regiment of exercise start slowly and work your way up to Olympic standards

Yes, this is the second week after a hiatus of a couple of months. Previously could run for miles, no problem. Now it's after only 1 or 1-1/2 miles. It's a short run to be puking on. Very frustrating.
I suspect as you, it will improve with increased conditioning.

This article is from Stew Smith and in part he says:
Motion Sickness – This is probably what caused your nausea. Many people who like to begin their workouts with crunches or other abdominal exercises can actually get motion sick while performing abdominal exercises. This occurs when your eyes are either closed while exercising or your eyes scan the ceiling freely. The answer to this is to simply do the old Navy trick I learned when first on a ship in the North Atlantic - look at the horizon to prevent motion sickness. So when doing abs, lock your eyes on a fixed point on the ceiling of your workout area. You will not longer feel sick by doing this as long as you are properly fueled and not too anxious about your PFT.

I have never heard of this. The interwebs are wonderful.

Haha, apparently the quoted sailor hasn't been out in REALLY rough stuff, when the horizon disappears and it's just swell after swell.

Breathing properly and remaining hydrated help alot too. I always had some trouble if my throat dried up....solution....keep drinking an appropriate amount of liquid....and breath through the nose.

Dont forget to eat! Especially if its in the morning, you need to have food in your stomach to exercise if you will be doing strenuous exercises. Dont eat right before exercising but an hour before is fine. Dont pig out either!

Light food....

I had an "alpine grill" sandwich and ran the 1.5 miles as a cadet about 30-45 mins later.....

Alpine grill is chicken, bacon, swiss cheese, and mayo.....

Needless to say, the results of a run after that heavy meal....not pretty.

Breathing properly, being well hydrated and food are all corrected for.
Juice or Gatorade and toast an hour prior.

Hey, SEALs are some tough dudes, and I would feel safer having one with a gun around any day of the week...but you want REAL sea stories about....the SEA, then you talk to SWOs and you talk to Cuttermen.

Like I said - food and fluids are corrected for.
This is something that has never occurred before in a kid who has been an aerobic athlete for 15 of 20 years.
If anyone has any first hand experience your thoughts would be appreciated.
trying to keep on topic................

Well, if you need to hear about stormy seas, just look at the weather channel of head down to your local port where all of the Navy ships are moored up (it's just too rough!).

My favorite story takes place in the North Arabian Gulf.

U.S. Navy destroyer pulls up next to a 110' Island class cutter. U.S. Navy master chief is transported via small boat to the cutter. Earlier that day the master chief had be "talkin' a lot of smack". Within five minutes of setting foot on the 110' cutter, the master chief had turned green and began chumming the water. He would continue until he left. Good ole "Salty" Navy BMs...:wink:

Seas look a lot smaller from the deck of a 600' Navy 'boat' than they do from a 210' cutter.

You are both worthless and weak compared to Marines

marines=Navy cargo just pull in download the cargo wash out the cages and go pick up more cargo.

what's the purpose for a marine on a Navy ship? movable
ballast.

:wink::eek:

Why doesn't this person go see the clinic?

Aw come on, tpg; your a Marine. Would you have gone? Puking while running is not a reason to seek professional, medical attention!
Anyway - I was just wondering if anyone had any tricks up their sleeves.
Thanks!

What is this "exercise" thing you people are talking about?

It sounds vaguely familiar....... must be years since I've heard it.....

Hmmmm......

if it really becomes a problem just eat something really good before you go so that you can taste it twice
