My DS is an ANG member in the Split Ops program, he completed BCT this past summer. My DS has completed his application with the exception of his Commanders Assessment. We are hoping his assessment is completed by the 31st. When my DS enlisted in March they told him he could apply to USMA because they believed he would be academically qualified. He was not interested at the time, has always wanted to join the Army and was just ready to get started at 17. When he returned from BCT and got back in the groove of HS he decided maybe he should go ahead and apply at USMA, along with TAMU. By that time it was October and the Senators application for nominations had already closed. He applied for nomination through his MOC who had two slates and he received a nomination. His NG unit hasn't been a-lot of help simply because they have never had anyone apply to a SA. We did not know about the Service Connected Nomination and therefore he did not apply for that nomination either. Coming in late to the game we really have been lost and have played catch up. Basically my question is would he still be eligible to fill one of the NG spots if he does in fact receive his Commanders assessment and is deemed to be academically qualified (He is already physically and medically qualified). Its not the end of the world if he doesn't get in, he has decided not to reapply as he has been accepted into TAMU Engineering School and will join the Corps there and be in the NG SMP program.

Have you been in touch with CPT Nash or CPT Mason? They were of extreme help throughout my application process.

I would guess that yes, he will still be eligible assuming all he's missing is the Commander's assessment. There are somewhere around eighty slots for ARNG applicants, and from what I've read on here, they usually are not all filled. He should keep pushing for the Commander's assessment through his chain of command and keep in touch with the two Soldier admissions officers (named above) as he finishes his application.

Update
My DS had his West Point interview done the last week of January. When he spoke to the interviewer about the Commanders Assessment, the interviewer stated to continue to try and contact his Commander to obtain the assessment, even if it was after the January 31st deadline. My DS wasn’t able to get a hold of his RC by way of chain of command but it gave us some hope since my DS’s drill weekend was coming up February 7th. Fortunately my DS was able to meet with the Regional Commander in person this past weekend. Apparently the Commander has been trying to submit my DS’s assessment but the website wouldn’t allow him to submit it with his Army email address. The RC had been in contact with admissions but had not gotten a response about problems with submission. Today admissions called my DS and left a voice mail asking why his Commanders Assessment had not been submitted. Between the time they left the message and the time he was able to call them back, the Commander had finally been able to submit the assessment. Under the Nominations tab it finally shows a green check for the RC nomination as well as the two checks for the MOC. It is such a relief knowing that it is all out of our hands now and in theirs. My DS was informed that they would fill 50 ARNG spots at USMA and 60 ARNG spots at USMAPS and that there were still open spots at both. They also told my DS to continue to check his portal.

DS had a major issue with getting one of his evaluations to "green checkmark". His instructor had made several attempts to submit and still the portal showed a red x. Instructor even copied me on the emails and included his evaluation so that I was at ease that he was doing his part. He reached out to the SA several times to advise of the problems he was experiencing and meanwhile my kid was emailing as well. This began in November and it didn't get resolved until early January.

USMA is having problems with their systems. As reported in TWE threads. Appears to be oozing into all areas. If something doesn’t seem right? It may not be.

It is complicated indeed. My kid was hesitant to keep emailing or asking for updates lest he make any waves and he fought me left and right but eventually, as time get passing, he got on the same page. All that back and forth between various folks was proof (digital) that he and his teacher were doing everything in their power to get things done in a timely manner and that the issue wasn't on their end. This isn't even isolated to WP or SA's. Just last week, DS high school grade portal showed zero's for assignments which he did online and for which he had a receipt. The teacher should be able to log into her version to review and grade and then transmit grade to the portal. He logged into his portal to show her assignment and she logged into hers and couldn't see the assignment so she assumed he hadn't turned it in. Technology isn't flawless.

Technology is awesome. Until it isnt. Then we are almost crippled. Kid of scary.

My DS was also very hesitant to want to alert them to the problem. It wasn’t just the RC that was having trouble sending the assessment it was also his Staff Sargent. It wasn’t easy because it’s a little hard to get a hold of those individuals but persistence paid off. Thankfully it is done now and hopefully that doesn’t affect his overall application.

I noticed your “name”. I’m a new ANG mom myself!
