My DS is an ANG member in the Split Ops program, he completed BCT this past summer. My DS has completed his application with the exception of his Commanders Assessment. We are hoping his assessment is completed by the 31st. When my DS enlisted in March they told him he could apply to USMA because they believed he would be academically qualified. He was not interested at the time, has always wanted to join the Army and was just ready to get started at 17. When he returned from BCT and got back in the groove of HS he decided maybe he should go ahead and apply at USMA, along with TAMU. By that time it was October and the Senators application for nominations had already closed. He applied for nomination through his MOC who had two slates and he received a nomination. His NG unit hasn't been a-lot of help simply because they have never had anyone apply to a SA. We did not know about the Service Connected Nomination and therefore he did not apply for that nomination either. Coming in late to the game we really have been lost and have played catch up. Basically my question is would he still be eligible to fill one of the NG spots if he does in fact receive his Commanders assessment and is deemed to be academically qualified (He is already physically and medically qualified). Its not the end of the world if he doesn't get in, he has decided not to reapply as he has been accepted into TAMU Engineering School and will join the Corps there and be in the NG SMP program.
