Hey guys,
I'm planning on applying to USMA. Right now I'm a junior and I have already talked to my regional admissions rep. I'm meeting the local parents' club members tomorrow night.

I have a 4.75 weighted GPA, 6 out of 170 class rank, and I'm taking three AP courses as a junior.

I do model un, key club, spanish honor society, leadership board for a diversity youth program (11 selected out of 2500 for leadership board), selected as one of two male "Who's Who" sophomore year (faculty selects Who's Who), played baseball all three years so far for high school, football one year. Yes I plan on applying to SLS once I am able to.

A question: During middle school, I had mild psoriasis on my hands. It is a skin disease that causes dry skin and peeling. It was always very mild and never spread anywhere besides my hands, and has been gone for three years now. In the admissions catalog, it says that a verified history of psoriasis is a disqualification.

Will this be a problem for me when going through DODMERB?

Thanks in advance for the help! I have looked at this forum for about three months now, but this is my first post.

Hi, it looks like you are involved. What is your unweighted GPA? When do you plan to take the SATs, I too am a Junior, for I will be taking them in November.
For the psoriasis, you should either make a thread in the DODMERB forum or email Mr. Mullen, whose information is available in that section. Try to work towards holding an office in Spanish Honor Society or Key Club, or even try to join a new club and trying to get one from there. I'm not sure they would consider the People to People as worthy, but it may be just me.

Also, do you happen to know the process for applying for SLS, as I too am curious and hopefully we both could attend.

Applications for SLS will open up in December or January, I believe, and will be available on the West Point Admissions page.

my unweighted gpa is 3.92.
took ACT for the first time last saturday. Ive taken an unofficial practice one a couple of weeks ago and I got a 32 composite.
PSAT- we are taking that in mid- october.

Oh, and the psoriasis- I talked to the local West Point Admission Rep about it, and he said that since it was mild, a long time ago, and only once had a problem with it, that it would be fine.

SLS- I plan on applying the first day it goes online. More specifically staying up till midnight (I heard thats when it goes up) and filling out the application then.:thumb:

only a couple of months till 2015 hopefuls can start applying! :yllol:

Just so you know, last year they had trouble with the website. I believe it said it went online on Dec 15th, but every time my son tried, it said that due to technical difficulties it was unavailable and to try again later. He finally got his application submitted on the 16th, and received an acceptance letter the following week dated the 17th, so they moved much more quickly than the other two academies (USNA/USAFA).

Best of luck - the summer seminars are awesome experiences!

If psoriasis is a disqualifying factor, they will definitely at least ask for a remedial. I am still in the process of working through the remedial (still waiting for my medical records...) for a condition I had 14 years ago.

I know of one person who had difficulty with their DoDMERB because of localized swelling from a bee sting. She was not allergic, but because she had treatment for it, she had to go through the whole remedial/waiver process.

I'm sure you won't be permanently disqualified for it, but if it really is listed as disqualifying, expect, at the very least, to have to send in more information.
