Purpose of photo?

I finished putting together my MOC packets today and spent some time digging for my school pictures to attach which made me wonder, what do they do with that picture? My guess is they use it for announcements, etc. but I could be wrong..
 
Any number of reasons. To see whether you are male or female (some folks have androgynous names). To see if you're a minority. To know what you look like when you show up for your interview.
 
Not every MOC requires one, for DS's 3 MOCs, only 1 req. It is just a personal preference, but I go with 1985, it could be multiple reasons. For DS the 1 that required it was the only one that did interviews, so I am guessing they made copies for the committee and it was just a resource tool, to have a face with a name before the child walked in.
 
Main reason is to identify the candidate.
MOCs like to get an idea of how you present yourself (attire, etc.)
Are you male or female.

Finally, after an entire morning or afternoon of interviewing it helps us remember each candidate after they have completed their interview. At times everyone blends together; we do not want to confuse one candidate with another.

(As a side note I have often wondered why a picture ID is not requested for the DoDMERB exam...hmmm).
 
the picture's main purpose is probably to see how you present yourself. I know my Congressman and one senator required them. You want to look professional in your picture. What I did was I went to a Post Office in a shirt and tie and got a passport photo taken. The picture is really your first impression, so why not make it a good one.
 
^ I think my daughter had to show her driver's license when she had her dodmerb exam as well.
 
I don't think it's really to see how you present yourself. They will see plenty of that at the interview. It probably has to do with attaching a face to the candidate and remembering you better like 1985 said.

Yes, I remember that surprised me quite a bit when I took my exams...no ID required?! I wonder how many applicants have paid someone else to take their exams (eyesight and hearing, in particular), only to get turnbacked during the exam at Basic Training?

That was a joke, yes. Although I do believe I remember a case very similar to that happening with the naval academy recently (past couple years). The applicant had someone take the color vision test for him, or he cheated on it himself. It was discovered, and he was nearly charged under UCMJ. So, yes, a joke, but not so far fetched.Sad what some people will do, though. He cheated some worthy applicant out of a spot.:frown:
