Got a sibling in another branch that says to study up on some book knowledge like, dates, events, orders, etc for swab summer. What trivia about the CG will help me in swab summer? I heard at USNA they make you recite something about tar, or about cow milk. Does USCGA have any of this?

All the Academies use "how's the cow?" "Sir/ma'am, she walks, she talks, she's full of chalk, the lacteal fluid extracted from the female of the bovine species is highly prolific to the (last two digits of class year)th degree!"

Just study up on stuff like CG history, ranks and grades, cutters, or an old version of the Running Light

I would recommend reading the Running Light, the booklet you will receive during Swab Summer. It has the mission statement, orders, and much more

Do not waste your time memorizing anything and do not waste money on a Running Light. Assuming you have been given an appointment, you will be given one for free on Day One and you will spend hours and hours studying it while standing at the position of attention against the bulkhead (wall).

For all candidates, you should be spending your time enjoying what is left of your time before CGA, even if options are limited due to COVID-19. The point of memorizing indoc (the material you’re told to study) is not to get a “head start” before Swab Summer. It’s designed for you to learn the information, but also be able to recall and recite the information when under pressure.

If you really want to memorize something, memorize the Mission of USCGA and the Coast Guard Core Values. You will be instructed to memorize everything else when it is time for you to do so.

I agree with just enjoying your last days. Another thing you could memorize, if you really want, is the Coast Ethos. It's some pretty good motivation to get you thinking about what you're getting into, too. By far my favorite piece of indoc, if such a thing exists. I've included a video:

I agree, no need to memorize it bc part of swab summer is learning to memorize it there with all the other pressures. there will be plenty of time to study your running light (with the required knowledge) during the summer, so instead enjoy your time with your family friends and pets. If you do want to study, definitely the mission will be important.
