Loa received

I believe so. DoDMERB was not specifically mentioned in the letter although daughter has already passed DoDMERB.

New to this forum.... My son also received a LOA yesterday as well. Anyone with information on this? Sounds like this might be something new the USCGA is doing. He too went to AIM, session 1.

Are the candidates in question recruited athletes?

In any case, congratulations to you both. :thumb:

Thanks to all. Recruited athlete? Only thing he has done is fill out an online sports questionaire as well as replied to a general e-mail from coach. Just a side note, his sport of interest is only considered a "club sport" at the academy.

LOA ?

Does this stand for Letter of Appointment/Acceptance? CG is already offering appointments? -officer

I think it means Letter of Assurance. It must be new this year because I never recall reading about anyone getting one from CGA....just the other academies. Last year EA folks were hearing in mid December I believe. Maybe late November at the earliest?

Hang in there! Thinking good thoughts for you and your CGA hopeful. :thumb:

Thanks Shellz,

But what excactly is a letter of assurance? Assurance that you are in if you pass DodMerb? Assurance that they got your transcript/forms? Can you clarify a little please? Thanks:confused:

A traditional Letter Of Assurance is a conditional appointment, nothing more. It states that if you meet the condition, you will be granted an appointment.

The "condition" for the other 4 academies is usually a nomination, but it can be anything: DODMERB, CFA, maintaining good grades, etc.

USCGA has not used them in the past, however it appears that they are using them this year with highly competitive students who successfully completed AIM last summer.

Wow...so going to AIM really is a leg up on the process, it would seem. Good to know for future reference!

My statement:

is only speculation at this point and should be treated as such. :thumb:

So I shouldn't go around spouting that "Luigi said....." lol Will be sure to keep your speculation in mind. But you've never led me wrong before, so can ya really blame me?

By the time my younger gets ready to maybe apply (class of 2019!) I'm sure the process will have changed yet again. (and possibly again.)

This is definitely a spot for Objee to jump in and tell us what is going on. Luigi and I are both Admissions Partners and we aren't aware of it.
