I just confirmed through the postal service tracking number that my son's required paperwork arrived at CG yesterday. He still has his second SAT to take in a couple weeks, and an interview to schedule, but I think he wants to wait until he receives his 2nd set of SAT scores before the interview. So I know that CCEB starts meeting on October 1st, and I think I remember reading that they review the packages in order of receipt. Does anyone know if they set them aside even if they nayed  or yayed :thumb: them to be mailed all together in December. Or do they mail some decisions earlier in stages? Thanks, -officer

First round of offers (not to include the few LOAs that have been sent out) should be received right before Christmas for those applying EA. Packets may be reviewed multiple times during the process so candidates are encouraged to update and inform Admissions of significant accomplishments, grades, and test scores.

Updated files and early decision

My son is taking his PFE this week and sending in his complete packet. If he makes any updates after Nov. 1, will those updates still be considered for an early decision?

For EA decisions, packages are normally reviewed once. Deferred candidates may be reviewed and reconsidered again under Regular Admissions if there are additions to their profile.

A candidate can always send in update information any time during the application process. I would encourage a candidate to send information that is relevant and shows accomplishment.

The deadline for Admissions is that the complete package be received no later than 01 NOV; since you don't have any idea when your candidate's package will go before the board, I wouldn't hesitate to send any improved scores!
Also remember, USCGA is Early Action and non-binding.

My son will be taking his second SAT in 2 weeks. Was it a mistake to send in his package this early if CCEB only looks at it once. He will be getting the results sent "Rush Delivery" and they will be there before the deadline (Nov. 1). Will they look at his package again for EA after receiving the updated scores? -officer

Not a mistake at all - an updated (higher) SAT score is absolutely a positive addition that should be sent.

The January 2010 SAT test is the latest one you can use for the 2014 Admissions cycle at USCGA.

updating info

Should you contact your admission via email with up dated information or should you mail it to the admission's office stating clearly what information is updated. Apparently you cant go back on line and edit anything info once it is submitted. Thanks.

Both.

Mail it. Then send your AO an email to let them know you sent it.

Luigi,

I just spoke with CollegeBoard and they said that "Rush Reporting" can't be ordered until scores are on the website, which is October 29th. So rushed scores will not even be in the CCEB hands until November 2nd or 3rd. Once the scores are there, will CCEB re-look at the packages again with knowing these new scores? Or do they only look at the packages once for consideration into EA like you previously stated? I hope this makes sense. I just dont want my son's package to be one of the first reviewed with his old scores, and then set aside because they only look at the packages once. Thanks, -officer

With few exceptions, files are scheduled for initial CCEB review (under both EA and Regular Admissions) in order of completion and not given a second review just because updated/new information is received. If you want to request that your record is not initially reviewed until an optional item (improved SAT scores, letter of recommendation, interview report, etc.) is received, you should contact your Admissions Officer and they can place a note in your file.

If you have any doubts about whether or not to send in an update to your file, the most accurate answer can be obtained by calling the USCGA Admissions office and speaking with your Admissions Officer.

Okay, I thought that if we got our packages in anytime from now until Nov 1st, that they would be re-looked at for EA once the October test results got there showing a marked improvement in the scores.

Example: I have my son's transcript there with all the rest of his paperwork. He has (1) SAT score on his transcript (in the average range). He will be taking the October SAT and improving alot by what our practice tests are showing here at home. CCEB won't even look at his updated scores again until regular admissions? I was under the impression that all October scores were sent to CCEB for EA consideration

Yes, I just left a voice mail message for Cosimo, but he is out of town (probably here in San Antonio for the parent seminar). If I don't here anything soon, I will call the admissions office on campus. Thanks for your feedback Objee. And I thought I was doing good to get son's paperwork in early. -officer

So, once you send in your information and you send in SAT and ACT scores before the tests in October so that you can make the Nov 1 deadline with all information in, your packet will not be looked at again even though your score will improve with the October testing? Assuming that you did not get admitted for EA although you resubmitted better scores later would you still have to wait until April or May to hear again?

All files receive one review by the CCEB under EA, so improved SAT or ACT scores (received after that initial review is complete) will definitely be considered under Regular Admissions but will not trigger another review under EA. Since we have no way of knowing, unless they tell their Admissions Officers, which applicants plan to sit for and submit scores from the October SAT exam, we schedule files for review in order of completion. Again, if you don't want your record to be reviewed until a second set of SAT scores (or any other optional application item) is received, you should make sure that your Admissions Officer puts a note in your file.

Not necessarily until April or May. The CCEB begins meeting again on January 15th to review files for the Regular Admissions cycle.

PFE

What is the required minimum for acceptance and what is the average. Thanks

What is the required minimum for acceptance and what is the average. Thanks

All cadets at the Coast Guard Academy are required to pass the PFE at the beginning of each semester. The standard for graduation and commissioning is 200 points and cadets should always strive to achieve this score. Any cadet who scores below 165 points will be recommended for suspended disenrollment and may be recommended for immediate disenrollment based on previous PFE performance. There is not a prescribed minimum performance for each individual event on the PFE; only total scores are assessed.

285-300 Max Club
258-284 A
222-257 B
200-221 C
165-199 D
0-164 F

New cadets take the PFE during the first week of Swab Summer. Cadets who score less than 130 points on this first test are normally disenrolled. By the end of Swab Summer, usually the third week in August, new cadets are expected to score at least 165 points. Cadets unable to achieve this score by the end of the first academic semester, usually the second week in December, are normally disenrolled. Consequently, an applicant who cannot attain a score of at least 130 points will not receive a full appointment. This standard may be raised based on the competitiveness of the applicant pool and the needs of the Coast Guard.

CLASS OF 2013 PERFORMANCE
For your information and comparison, the following is a table of mean performances by the Class of 2013 from their initial Swab Summer Physical Fitness Examination in July 2009:

1. Cadence Push-Ups
Men - 36 Women - 27

2. Two Minute Sit-Ups
Men - 75 Women - 72

3. 1.5 Mile Run
Men - 10:15 Women - 12:24

YES! YES! YES!
I just got off the phone with Lt. Cambi (CG admission officer) and he said that they (CCEB) don't even start meeting to look at the packages until November 15th. All is well in CG land at officer's house. Thanks all for your answers to my frantic moment> -officer

also, FYI I called collegeboard back and they said that all October SAT scores are released on October 29th. THE CB rep said that all October scores are then 2nd day aired to the schools (they will be there by Ocober 31). Whew! Cutting it very close.
