Is the date to let applicants know about appointments still April 15 or is delayed due to COVID?
Thank you for any insight.

Depends on the applicant‘s status. Those with LOAs awaiting resolution of medical waivers are being advised to hang in there.

These candidates are waiting for a yes/no answer.

If you accept, this company can finally reject this line of candidates.

If you decline, this company has to move down the list and extend offers to others.

For every extra week they give you, that's one more week of silence for the list of candidates behind you. This compounds, and the poor sap at the end of the line that's waiting 4 weeks comes to this subreddit to complain about it.

I'm not commenting about anything else in your situation, but offer deadlines exist for a very real reason.

I read that four times, and I still don't understand it.

Not necessarily how it works. It’s not that a candidate says no and then they offer someone else. USNA offers X amount of appointments based upon the class size and anticipated yield rate. These last few offers that are coming out are candidates waiting on waivers and those with LOAs and no MOC noms (for the most part... obviously there are few others). If USNA dips below their number for the class size they will offer from the wait list. USNA will start to shrink the wait list as everyone makes final decisions with May 1st approaching.

@jackroomy1993 This isn’t a “subreddit”. SAF is a whole different vibe. It’s a forum full of very wise, knowledgeable, experienced people who have a lot to offer. If you have spent any time here, you would know that. Different than a Reddit. Generally things are upbeat and positive. Problem solvers. Not whiners. I didn’t see anyone complaining. OP asked a very relevant question.

Your stated understanding of how the process works isn’t correct. Including the appointments offered by company (if that what you mean?). @NavyHoops provided you good info.

Good luck to you if you are waiting for word for ‘24.

Everyone with an offer of appointment has until May 1 to accept or decline. Only at that point, does USNA even start considering the WL.

At this point, there shouldn't be anyone who has not been given a decision (accept, turndown, WL), other than those who are awaiting medical waivers. I would guess (but don't know) that those folks are counted in the "appointee" category unless/until their medical waiver is denied.

If USNA has a higher-than-expected yield (more than anticipated accept their appointments), the WL folks will likely get early TWEs. If the yield is less than expected AND depending on the number of potential medical waivers, at least some of the WL folks may not hear until June.

Bottom line: The timeliness of accepting/declining has no impact on the WLers. Only the final decision.

One other thing . . . if you are CPR and are NOT waiting for medical AND have not heard anything from USNA as to your status, I would give it until the end of this week and then check in with your Admissions person. Things are obviously not normal this year and thus it's possible that a few things were delayed due to COVID or other reasons. But by the end of this week, it makes sense to check in.

If you read USNA.EDU timeline, it states that "most" will know by April 15...not "everyone.."

There are always outliers, e.g., someone with LOA waiting for a waiver. The number is small, and if you are in the group,
it means you are still in the game for a reason, and I would expect that the folks in Admissions are focused in on resolving whatever issue is holding up the decision.

I've never been able to find the Reddit room, but have looked at a couple of other online Forums, and the amount of misinformation out there is amazing. SAF has plenty of mis -, or irrelevant, information as well, but there is enough experience here to keep it real !
