If you show up as "qualified" at this point, you will likely go through the rigorous physical/medical process later that will determine if "pilot qualified". I have seen multiple posts that confirm that for the right cadet, the government will provide vision correction surgery.

I think you’re right; but if vision does not mean standards, can you still go to usafa and graduate as a pilot?

At what point along the four years do they normally do the vision surgery?

The first big group is done right after the beginning of the third year. They wait until after commitment to allow any cadets to have the procedure. There are other chances to get it done later, but most of the pilot hopefuls get it done at the first chance so that they are fully recovered before pilot selection happens Senior year. My son had his done the day after commitment and had his one-year clearance check-up right on schedule.

If you do not meet vision standards to pass a flight physical, you will not go to UPT. The AF won't pay to train you for something you can't do.
There are opportunities to have eye surgery, if the doctors think you are a good candidate for success.
There are also waivers for those within certain limits. (I have a roughly -2.0 prescription, and got a waiver.)
