Who Is Still Waiting?

Still HOLD here in Ohio. DD has been HOLD for about a month. Still hopeful but really need some positive news soon since Ohio has closed schools for the remainder of the year and is continuing online learning! So many unknowns for his senior year still and praying for at least a walk across the stage for graduation!

We’re in the same boat in Virginia. Picking up cap and gown next week. Hope he gets to use. But really hoping to hear some good news

What's going on at TAMUG?
As reported by current student and their parent, there are leadership issues but the bulk of the problems pertain to their broken training vessel that is causing serious problems for training hours and results in having to borrow from other Maritime schools which is adding cost and forced an additional trip to get the needed hours.

The facilities are great and we enjoyed the tour, but when it comes down to the day to day, it sounds like it has been a bad experience of late for people in the program.

Thanks. Had heard about some of that. My DD enjoyed and benefitted greatly from her year at TAMUG but is looking forward to reporting to the USCGA in June (pandemic permitting).

Our son is currently a USMMA Junior.

1) This is the hardest part. The waiting. Our son got an email on 28 April 2017 and then a phone call from his Congressman while at school. Many were accepted through May and even into early June.

2) Our son has had zero trouble getting the required sea days despite COVID issue. The ATR officers have gone out of their way to get these kids on track and the USCG has given them bonus time to get their required hours.

3) Hold fast and we are praying for you and your kids!

Thanks so much for sharing, very appreciated!

I just want to tell those of you waiting that, although I exhaled and breathed normally for about 2 days after my daughter got the call, I went right back to holding my breath for the rest of y’all.

Please know that you aren’t alone and that an anonymous mom in AL is continuing to think of y’all, pray for y’all, and I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed too for good measure!

This forum isn’t just a wealth of knowledge, it is full of people who, though truly socially distanced, support one another and that is a blessing all day long!!!

Hi everyone,
This is KPmom2019 I imagine you can gather from my screen name that i have a child that graduated KP in 2019 - now it's my youngest child's turn. She is currently on hold and has been since early February. She got her application in just before the January 2020 deadline. She has a plan B but following in her big brother's footsteps is her first choice. She saw him through his 4+ years at KP and liked what she saw. I say 4+ years b/c her brother was a "Sponsored Prep". Kings Point selected to sponsor him to the New Mexico Military Institute. He did well there and a year later finally got his appointment to usmma. Those were exciting times and watching him complete indoc 2015, travel the world on his sailings 1st and 2nd, and all that Sea Year Project work was thrilling to watch. Finally, the hard work that went into his preparing for the US Coast Guard licensing exams culminating in "Ringing the Bell" was absolutely amazing. The day he rang the bell I literally cried -real tears. It was a stupendous moment in time. Fast forward 11 months and our DD is on hold. I understand that May 1st is the national deadline for college acceptance. I will hold fast and pray for all of you and your hopes and dreams of a Principal Appointment at KP. Acta non verba - stay the course.
