We received the Dept of Defense Medical Exam information in the mail today. Does this need to be completed by the Nov 1st date? I thought you only did this if you were offered a spot.

I believe that a conditional offer of appointment can be offered, pending the results of DoDMERB. However, you need to get that done ASAP!!! It takes around 6 weeks for them to process it...which is really bad if you get medically disqualified because the waiver process is supposed to be really long

(I took my DoDMERB in June and just found out a couple days ago that I was medically disqualified for vision--I'm in the process of retesting and getting my results sent back in)

It takes them longer to process applicants when more applications come in, because DoDMERB tests all of the service academy candidates and ROTC scholarship applicants

Don't delay...my son had everything turned in early but found out in late December that he was medically DQ'd, and also had a number of administrative (paperwork) remedials. The effort it took to gather all of the paperwork from every doctor he had ever seen was time consuming, to say the least. We were able to convince DoDMERB to look into the DQ further (after they received the mountain of paperwork). He then had to undergo some medical testing which had to be repeated twice due to inconsistencies in the results. This took time.

Good luck. You are not too late if our experience is representative of the process...just start now. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who gets qualified right out of the gate.

My question is, do we send this in when we send in the EA application? Or do we wait until we hear something?

They go to different places, I believe. Either way, send it now. Good luck! :thumb:

Start the DODMERB process now. The physical exam package has a DETAILED set of instructions. Make sure you (and the examining physicians) follow them EXACTLY. The DODMERB exam does not have to be completed by 1 Nov, but only a conditional appointment may be offered until the applicant is found medically qualified. There's a DODMERB thread on this forum if you have more questions. Good luck!

What do you want to "send in"?

You say you received your "Dept of Defense Medical Exam information in the mail today."

What does that mean? What did you get?

A card to schedule an exam? Schedule it forthwith!

A request for remedial info? Send it in ASAP!

If it is simply a letter from DODMERB stating you are qualified, you need not do anything - the academy will access the DODMERB and will obtain your status if they choose to offer you an appointment.

Your DODMERB status has no bearing on EA decisions.

You must take your DODMERB physical exam by April 15 2010.

You must be found eligible (qualified or waivered) by June 1 2010 or any appointment will be rescinded.
