Ok folks; this is the AIR FORCE forum, so we're allowed to be bias. With all the stress and seriousness involved with applying to the academy, the one thing we all know that the academy emphasizes, is Teamwork. Well, this Saturday, at 1:30pm MST (3:30pm east coast); the Air Force Falcons will be playing Navy in the football game of the season. Played in Annapolis. Approximately 600 cadets from Colorado Springs will be traveling to the game to support Air Force. There will also be thousands of Air Force supporters at the game. And the Navy fans are also dedicated fans. The game has been officially called "Sold Out". Can't ask for anything better.

So; while it's not possible for most to attend the game, it is being televised. Whether you're a football fan or not, I think you will enjoy watching this game. It's on CBS Sports channel. (Check your local listing). You will have the opportunity to truly see what Air Force (And Navy) pride, teamwork, and camaraderie is all about. You can learn all about the academics, dorms, living conditions, etc... through this forum and from talking to many people. But if you want to see and experience the SPIRIT of the academy; the feelings of pride that can not be explained; the "Family" that you become part of; then do yourself a favor and grab some chips, drinks, and pizza; and watch the game on Saturday. Watch the fans. Watch the cadets on both sides. Watch the players.

The education, job opportunities, travel, benefits, and such are a wonderful thing about the academy and military in general. But the "Family" that you become part of is something that no forum can accurately explain. It's a separate family all unto itself. It can't be explained by parents or family members. It can't be explained in books or college reviews. And you may not even understand it if you see it. But you will know that those cadets have "SOMETHING". Something that is powerful. And that is what makes our military the greatest in the world. It's being part of something that becomes part of you. Whether you're a cadet at the academy, an ROTC grad, OTS, enlisted, active duty, or retired; that feeling is something that will always be there. When I was 12 years old and went to the American Legion with my uncle one time; and I felt something permeating from the veterans when they were together; I knew that Is what I wanted to be part of.

So; if you get the chance; turn on the game and root for your favorite team. (Air Force). And we look forward to a hard fought game with no injuries on either side. And it's time to break Navy's 6 year winning streak. GO FALCONS; Squash the Squids!!!! Later... Mike....
 
Right now with the weather predictions, you'll be happy to watch it on tv. Think of Bullet and I while you laugh about those poor people in the rain.:eek: AT least we will have shelter at the AOG tent for tailgating
 
AND: The AFA fencing team will be in Amarillo, TX this weekend, so if you're in the neighborhood, go check out the hardworking sword fighters! :)

That's OK kiddo. Let me know when/If Air Force fences against Navy; and if it's at the academy. I'm down there a lot. (Matter of fact, I just returned from there about an hour ago. Son's got a 4 day weekend, and I'm taking him hunting tomorrow). Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing a fencing match. Later... Mike.....
 
Does anyone know if the AF/Navy game is nationally broadcast tomorrow? I keep looking for it on my local TV and am not seeing it anywhere.

Alas, fencing, except in Olympic years, is seldom on TV. Now, some have speculated that if the fencers wore the same uniforms as the female volleyball players... :shake:
 
Fencersmother; The air force/navy game is on CBS sports. I have directv, it's around channel 612 if I'm not mistaken. If you have cable, it could be part of expanded or a sports package.

As for fencing, I wouldn't mind seeing it LIVE if it's at the academy. later... mike....

I have comacast so the channel is in the 200's somewhere if anyone was wondering.
 
My eldest son is going to NAVAL OCS later this fall and we are certainly having fun with this game while he's home. My DH bought a bunch of little plastic boats at the Dollar Store and has them upside down all over the house. Eldest was blubbering there for a while and as his devoted parents, we saw a certain value in reducing him to such blubbering. hahahahaha Adulthood is just so much fun!

GO AIR FORCE!!! SINK THE SQUIDS.

The 2009 Falcon Fencing Open is the weekend of October 24/25. My son is fencing on Saturday in the Men's Open epee event. Looks to be like some pretty good action in the Open events, plus there are several kid events too.

Northercalmom: I can understand reading the interview that way. But there's a lot deeper tones to the thread. Mainly; Navy and Army don't have a conference. It doesn't matter how many wins/losses they have. All they worry about is 6 wins and they're bowl eligible. So, they only really have one major game to look forward to. The CIC game. But Air Force is in a conference. Bowl games and success are also tied to the other 8 teams. As for playing, in order to win, Air Force has to play this game like their conference games. To maintain consistency. Reggie mentioned numerous times how important winning the CIC and beating navy. Important to him, the team, and especially the cadet wing. But he is correct that "As A Player", you have to view the CIC game a little different when you're Air Force and part of a Conference (Mountain West Conference); then if you are Navy or Army. We have some fans who are hardcore who have said that they wouldn't mind going 2-10 for the season as long as the 2 wins were Army and Navy and getting the cup back. If we were an independent in the NCAA, that might fly. But when you're in a conference; especially a conference being considered for BCS automatic qualification status, your out-of-conference wins/losses affects the rest of your conference. But I do understand how you could read the interview that way.

Anyway; here's to a fantastic game between Air Force and Navy today. Here's to no injuries. And here's to both teams, because they know deep down inside that they are both on the "SAME TEAM". Mikey......

They were soo close. 16 to 13 Navy in first OT. Their defense looked amazing, but the offence hasn't scored a TD in almost a month. Well...maybe next year. 7 years sounds like enough dust on that trophy to me.
