A question on the lighter side. I know the the Academy has a song but does The US Merchant Marine have a song? I searched the web and came up empty. Thanks all

It's "Heave Ho, My Lads, Heave Ho" by Jack Lawrence. (He also wrote "Beyond the Sea.") The things I've learned with a son in Band Company....

Oh this is just too good an opportunity to miss::rolleyes:
Drunken Sailor:
"What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Early in the morning?
Way-hay, up she rises
Way-hay, up she rises
Way-hay, up she rises
Early in the morning
Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober
Pull out the bung and wet him all over
Put him in the scuppers with the deck pump on him
Heave him by the leg in a runnin' bowlin'
Tie him to the taffrail when she's yard-arm under"

or you could try:
Leave her, Johnny
"Oh the times was hard and the wages low
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
And the grub was bad and the gales did blow
And it's time for us to leave her

Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
For the voyage is done and the winds do blow
And it's time for us to leave her

Seriously- I believe this song from WW2 and the training station at Sheepshead Bay (which was the home of the US Maritime Service from 1941 to 1950) is the official one:
Song of the Merchant MarineHeave Ho! My Lads! Heave Ho!
Words and Music by Lieut. (jg) Jack Lawrence, USMS, 1943
http://www.usmm.org/heaveho.html
"Heave Ho! My Lads, Heave Ho!
It's a long, long way to go.
It's a long, long pull with our hatches full,
Braving the wind, braving the sea,
Fighting the treacherous foe;
Heave Ho! My lads, Heave Ho!
Let the sea roll high or low,
We can cross any ocean, sail any river.
Give us the goods and we'll deliver,
Damn the submarine!
We're the men of the Merchant Marine"

You know Bruno, my wife has a few relatives who graduated from USMMA. Those are not the songs they speak of….of course I could NEVER repeat the songs they speak of either, so maybe it is all a good thing. :thumb:

Arrgh matey! I believe that USMMA has a pretty good official song (Kings Point Alma Mater: "Oh, Stately, strife born Alma Mater the sound flows softly at thy feet and sunset strikes across its waters as silver notes invoke retreat. Now dim the paths and trees in darkness. The stars above our way appoint. We'll Sleep secure aboard 'til morning. God steer the well, Kings Point!" ) - it must be the USMMA Rugby team songs that you are referring to?

Thanks all, the reason I asked was ... we went to a wonder concert given by the 2nd Compnay Marine Band this weekend and at the end they honored all those who served and are serving. They played Anchors Away, Off We Go, From the Halls of Montazuma, When the Caissons Go Rolling and a Coast Guard Song. So I was wondering if we had one also. The concert was wonderful but now I guess we are back to the "other" thread and that age old question. Fun songs thanks again.
