Hi Everyone,
I am 5 feet and 8.5 inches tall and weigh about 133-134 lbs (although, as a bit of a late bloomer, I am still gaining height). I hope to join the AFROTC, but I also plan to apply to AROTC as well. I am looking at the weight standards for the Air Force (The Army's maximum weight is slightly higher, but the minimum is the same). The minimum weight for someone in between 5'8" and 5'9" is 125-128 lbs and the maximum weight is 164-169 lbs. I am technically above the minimum by 5-9 lbs, depending on where my height is marked for my physical examination. However, I am a bit worried that my lower weight will hurt my candidacy. What do you all think about this? Are my concerns valid or am I worrying over nothing?

I have been attempting to gain mass (without sacrificing my fitness or health) by adding more carbs and protein into my diet and just eating more food in general, but I do not think it is possible for me to make huge jumps in weight. The men in my family all tend to be more slight in frame; not because of a lack of fitness, but they just tend to be leaner than most. If my lower weight is a serious concern, do you all have any extra suggestions about gaining mass aside from simply intaking more food and nutrients and exercising (which I have been doing regularly for over a year, so I'm doubtful how significant an effect more exercise will have in terms of large amounts of weight gain)?

Thank you!

You will NOT be DQ'd by DoDMERB for your weight.
You must meet the Ht/Wt standards before you can activate your scholarship. The measurements will be made by your ROTC unit :wiggle:

Just to clarify, you're saying that my height/weight measurements won't even be part of my application for the scholarship and I just need to be within the requirements when I'm weighed when I arrive at college?

I'm saying what I said above. Whether they ask for your Ht/Wt on your scholarship application, I don't know. But because it would be self-reported, it is doubtful it plays a role in selection and award. :wiggle:

+1 to MullenLE... and besides if you're in range then you're in range. No need to worry about it. Spend your time worrying about something else on your application.
