What are you avoiding while you peruse/post here today??

In my case I really need to continue building my course on CANVAS as the students start next Tuesday.

Reviewing a business plan for a friend. It’s going to be a slog.

Re-planting the an area of the garden and tidying it up. Too hot right now.

Taking a CFP continuing education class online. (ugh).

Can't take a break in my backyard, due to California wildfire smoke inhalation. :(

I'm avoiding trimming the hedges while I watch our dog. Mom is doing her volunteer day at the Turtle Hospital so I can get away with almost anything. She's sitting a turtle nest tonight so it will be a quiet day for me.

Sitting here drinking coffee waiting to go to work. We have a system update this evening on the software platform for all our North American manufacturing facilities. My work won’t begin until everyone starts rebooting after the update and I start finding what we missed in testing the update. 🤨

Good luck. Hope y'all missed nothing.

Funny enough... I volunteered to stand watch! I am helping out in our emergency operations center as our company preps for the hurricane. The regular folks who man this will come back in tonight after taking a break from the weekend prep and much needed rest. Will impact some of our areas. But our Emergency Ops Center is far away and in a safe place states away from the impact area.

Welp, finished much of that CANVAS work, the last module is just a placeholder and I really don't know how I'll define it online thus far.
Since my wife is doing something very similar in her course and she too is "placeholding", I think its all I can do for the time being so we
went out on the bikes for some exercise. Now back and I've got to get ready for a public hearing (via zoom) where the town board I'm
on has to rule on a couple of applications. They're simple enough that we could probably do it in under an hour but both applicants are
bringing lawyers and consultants so it will probably take AT LEAST 3 hours (lawyers and consultants get paid by the hour).

How did Watch Squad Inspection go? :zip:

Now on deck all eight o'clock reports. Eight o'clock reports will be taken via email from the ops center.

15 yrs ago this week, Katrina his Louisiana. Now they brace for a one, two punch of Laura and Marco...without a chance for Laura water to recede.

Praying for those poor people ☹️

I remembered all my general orders and my jeans and company polo apparently worked fine! I mean it’s the easiest watch ever. 4 hours, just did my usual work day minus some senior leader updates, and listened to a podcast when not a call. So pretty much the easiest 4 hours ever. And they fed us Maggianos too. I won’t complain!

I am in a professional development session. We are required to attend two every afternoon all week in preparation for the start of the virtual school year. The topic is "Using a Document Camera" and the facilitator who is a really good physics teacher is having problems with her technology. That's my current anxiety. Not being face to face in a hands-on course is not cool. When we went virtual last year after the shut down, I already knew the students and we carried on without too many interpersonal issues. On 8 September we start the new year online with all new students. We cannot require them to turn on their camera (equity, the focus this year) so I will be teaching to a gray laptop screen I'm sure. They pay me well though for barely nine months "work" so I won't complain too much. Plus, I am home and not pulling into Guam for Safe Haven Liberty.

My wife and I are going to require cameras on for our students since they ALL have at least a cellphone. Anyone with a problem is welcome to discuss privately and, since we both got new webcams, have a couple of old ones to offer as loaners.
