Hi all!

I am applying to multiple service academies and am starting my nominations. I was wondering it you guys could help me out. I am in this alone and am a little confused how the process works. I have printed out my local representatives papers the other day and filled them out for practice. Do i contact anyone to let them know i am seeking a nomination? Or do i just fill out their paperwork and send it in?
Please help me out here, all info is greatly appreciated.
I have started my apps to my academies, and this is my next step...i thank you all in advance for helping me out with my issue

thank you very much, God bless, and go USA!!!

Just fill out the paperwork and include whatever your MOC is requesting. Some request that the entire packet be submitted with everything together in one envelope. Others want your recs to be sent directly from the recommending source ... Your MOC application should have instructions. If it is unclear you can call your MOC office and ask, since all MOCs run a little bit differently from each other, none of us can give a definitive answer. There is typically no need to notify the MOC that you are going to apply. Just be sure to follow their instructions and you should be okay. Most MOCs have a staffer responsible for the nomination process. These people know how it is done in that MOC office. Don't be afraid to call them.

Make sure to check the deadlines for the MOC applications (some states are coming up the end of this month, I know a couple of states that the deadline is past). I know for our MOCs that they want everything (including transcripts, letters of recommendations, test scores, etc) in by the deadline. Don't forget to apply for noms from both of your states U.S. Senators, your U.S. Congressman and from the Vice President (here is the link to the website for the VP nom: http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/vice_president_Biden/ the deadline is 10/31). Good luck!

This website (mine)- http://www.toughestschoolsintheworld.com/ has links for all applications for all academies, and pages for the Nominations. The blog even has some interview ideas.
Notes that have been alluded to by previous posts...
1) Note the Member of Congress (MOC) requirements and be detailed in responding to exactly what they require.
2) The MOC's do not all ask for the same items. Do not mix them up!
3) Failing to meet deadlines eliminates MANY candidates each year.
4) Apply to EVERY possible nomination source.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Getting a nomination is only one component to being accepted to a service academy, and without it, you can't be accepted.

While many of the nomination offices do run differently, I called each of the staffers individually to make sure that everything I had was in order. My senators don't conduct interviews, so my application (like the Vice President's) is the only thing they will see about me - so make sure they don't have any misconceptions.

As for your representative, do the same. First impressions really do help. My representative's mailing address is thirty minutes away from where I live, but I chose to take it to the staffer personally. Why? Three main reasons:

1. This shows that you care that everything is in check
2. This shows that you're willing to take your time that you could spend doing
something else making sure everything is in order, and
3. This makes sure that they remember you

This also gives you some security that everything is in order. And just like 2011's Mom said, DON'T BE AFRAID TO CALL! This is a very important step.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL STARTS HERE. This means deadlines, what to put, what not to put, etc. If it's sloppy, what does that say about you and how much you want to go to a service academy. Staffers do complain about the meticulous things, because in a service academy, this type of stuff will be required to be to the best of your ability. Why not start now?

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Better make it quick Basketball10. Definitely check on deadlines. In CT the last congressional deadline is 10/30/09. Remember that the forum provides a wealth of information. I used it exclusively when I had questions about the application and nomination processes. These people know what they are talking about......BEST of LUCK

Sure you can. You just have to apply to the right service academy.

 Luigi, you're right. My apologies, and thank you for correcting me. If I remember correctly, the USCGA is the only service academy that you don't need a nomination for.

I am a bit biased because of my application to USAFA and USNA. I think that everything else in my quote should be correct. Thanks for correcting me again.

Relax, it's only a friendly reminder that generalizations do not always apply to all FIVE of the Service Academies.

Your not biased, just focused.
