Confusion of why my disqualification isn't repealed?

Hello all,

I had found out that I was medically disqualified from CGA, USNA and MMA because of :

D155.41 Distant visual acuity not correctable to 20/20 in each eye

However, I went to an optometrist and had my eyes checked...She said that my eyes WERE correctable to 20/20 vision...however, in an email to a DoDMERB official, they said the following:

U still DO NOT meet standards for USMMA AND USCGA. U meet standards for West Point and USAFA. U will receive a letter, U can look at the website, to have one more eye test performed for USMMA and USCGA. U do correct to 20/20 now.

As stated previously in the document I attached before,, paras 5,7,8, 9, 10, u do NOT need to request a waiver.

There is no need to reply to my email.

I am really confused now, because even though I correct to 20/20 I am still medically disqualified. I know that I there is the possibility of getting a medical waiver, but I would rather avoid that if possible....Can anyone enlighten me on why I do not meed the medical standards for the Sea-Going Academies?

If you need a waiver, you need a waiver. Any Dq requires a waiver. You are corrected to 20/20......and then not corrected?
I do not fully understand what you are saying, so Mr. Mullen is your best bet......unless he is said DoDMerb official in your post, in which case there would be a communication error?
For all intents and purposes, Mr. Mullen is your best bet, I don't think any other on the forum can give a true explanation.

The LAST sentence is the key one: NOBODY ON THIS FORUM other than Mr. Mullen can give you:

a. TRUE explanation with no doubts remaining
b. Options, if any, for you
c. IF there are options, the process you MUST follow

Contact him per his instructions on the "sticky" on this forum. He's awesome to work with and will get in touch with you personally.

When I took my DoDMERB examination, the results came back and said that my vision was not correctable to 20/20. However, I went to a private optometrist and had another eye examination done...it turns out that my vision IS correctable to 20/20, it's just that my perception was thrown off without my glasses because I am near-sighted in one eye and far-sighted in another...I can read the 20/20 line on the snellen chart with my glasses, it's just a bit of a challenge with my weaker eye because of the differences in perception (I tend to see more out of my dominate eye).....Yes, Mr. Mullen was the DoDMERB official, and he said that there was no need to respond to his last email, but I am still confused as why I don't meet the medical standards even though I do correct to 20/20....is it maybe because I did not go through the medical facility that DoDMERB contracted?

As I stated above, Mr. Mullen said that there was no need to contact him, and his email was extremely brief and to the point that there was no need to contact him....however, I'm still very confused about why my status did not change if it was proven that my vision is correctable to 20/20.

Sam - Mr Mullen's email was a form email. Please contact him and he can explain it all to you. Don't be afraid to email him or call DODMERB.
The different service branches and hence different academies have different standards for vision. Mr Mullen can and should explain in detail to you what the problem is.
