too late?

if i am just finishing up all my application files to be complete for USNA, am i already real late in finishing? i am reading of many people already getting accepted this early in the year. do my chances of getting accepted decline each day i wait?

No, you're not late. The day that should be your latest completion date is Dec. 15, at the very latest. Remeber, these people arent getting accepted completely, they're getting LOA's, which are only contingent on the passsing of the CFA and becoming medically qualified from DoDMERB. Your in fine shape.

If you haven't already, check your congress person's and senator's websites for nomination application due dates. Those due date are different than the USNA.

Your post is not entirely correct. There are several candidates on this board who have been officially accepted (received appointment) from the USNA based on their completed application and their presidential nominations.

LOAs can be contingent on one or several factors - nomination, CFA results, medically qualified, etc... I received an LOA and it is contingent only on the nomination as I had everything completed by September 1st.

MDSU - You are not late but I would recommend that you submit everything sooner than later. Most congressional nomination deadlines are fast approaching... Good Luck!!

Yes most people have received LOAs, but some fortunate people who had Presidential nominations have already received their appointment. i was one of those fortunate enough. but you can definitely still be comptetive, especially if you receive a nomination

As NavyMom pointed out the thing you need to look into is your senator (which I believe most of them had due dates for application packages due NLT 1 Oct) and congressman which have a later due date for their packages.

USNA reviews completed packages on a weekly basis - so in theory the longer you wait to get your application in the few number of slots that are available. The most important thing though is submitting as "strong" of a packet as possible, don't rush things if you want to increase your SAT/ACT scores, etc.

I would think that there certainly IS some advantage in getting your packet completed early -and- consequently, an inherent disadvantage in completing it late.

With the academy's rolling admission process, more and more slots are disappearing with each passing meeting of the admissions board. By not having his packet completed, a candidate is missing out on those opportunities - thus getting fewer looks.

Although it may be true that it's "better late than never" - I would think there certainly is some disadvantage for a late submission - especially if your packet is one of those that is not good but not super-strong.

Met serveral of my Mid's friends this past summer and several stayed at our house. It's always interesting to hear a midshipman story of why and how the got into the Academy. (They are all different and none know exactly why they were accepted vs someone else) In this case the midshipman decided at the very last moment to apply and actully completed and submitted her application on the very last day possible. Her MOC had never sent anyone to an academy so there was an open nomination just sitting there. She recieved her appointment letter in January.

The only sure thing is if you do not submit and try you are 100% guaranteed not to get an appointment. If you try your best then anything and everything is possible until someone from the Academy tells you you did not make it.

Thanks for correcting me. I don't understnad is he talking about completing MOC files, or completing the file for USNA?

There's no question about it - geography and demographics play a HUGE role in competing for a nomination and appointment.

A kid with a 3.2 GPA, from a farming community in the cornfields of Nebraska, probably has a better chance of getting in than a kid with a 3.7 in San Diego, CA.
