NAVAL ACADEMY MIDSHIPMEN TO CARRY NATIONAL FLAG
FOR OPENING OF WORLD SERIES GAME 2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The U.S. Naval Academy Color Guard will present the national flag during opening ceremonies for game 2 of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday, Oct. 29 at Yankee Stadium in New York. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:55 p.m.

Coverage begins at 7:30 pm EDT.

Unfortunately, they (network TV) usually do not show the Star Spangled Banner/National Anthem anymore, using that valuable advertising time to sell beer or insurance.

Hopefully they will make an exception during the World Series and show it.

I think they do show the National Anthem during the World Series games. They did last night, anyway.

They show it. don't you watch the World Series, Luigi???
Go Phillies!

Baseball is boring and the games take forever to finish. Seems like a 4 hour game is now the norm.

There are about 10 other sports I'd watch on TV before choosing a baseball game. They need a salary cap like they have in the NFL.

The World Series is won with the checkbook today, just buy all the best players and call it a "team." Rah Rah.

I have no interest.

I'll watch the National Anthem and cheer the Mids, then switch to some meaningless early-season hockey game. :thumb:

Just curious, how are the mids chosen who are part of tonight's color guard?

You try out for color guard, so that is how you are chosen. If I recall correctly, it is usually run by the Brigade Drill dude (a Gunnery Sgt.) so its has an USMC feel to it. This alone makes it uncool and over the top. The mandatory attendance at every march on, parade and formation are also checks in the minus column for color guard. The goal is to get out of formation not get forced into going to every single one.
They also always wear the most impeccably polished shoes and always wear shirt stays. The negatives just keep on adding up. They did get to miss a day in the zoo to go to the World Series though, so +1 maybe even 2 for them.
I must say they do a nice job with those flags though.

Color Guard - Uncool?

Marvin - It's unfortunate that you view being a member of the Color Guard so negatively. Uncool? If you think it's uncool to want to look sharp and represent your school and the country in a positive light, then I question your motivations for attending USNA.

I would assume that being in the colorguard is voluntary and competition to be part of it is keen. My hat's off to these young men and women for "going the extra mile" and for representing the Brigade in such a positive manner.

I guess my humor switch was set in a different position. I don't view it negatively, I view it as it is. Good on the guys who go through all that the Color Guard goes through. At the end of the day, someone has to do it. I'm positively motivated every day that I wake up, so thanks for questioning that.
