Waived denied due to Myopia

Today I found out that my waiver for Air Force ROTC was denied. The reasoning was my myopia. Previously, I was at USMA where I was granted a waiver for my myopia. They told my cadre that even though the Army took me before, AF has different standards for it. I was told that my physical exceeds their myopia standards and that I was also unable to do the pre-op to proceed with corneal refractive surgery. They told me I could appeal but I would need to do an ophthalmology evaluation with a comprehensive eye examination to include a dilated fundus exam. Are the odds of me getting a waiver if I do this slim or has this happened to anyone else.

I’ve already stated ROTC and passed my AFOQT and PFA. I’m going as a 250 and it would really suck if I end up disqualified because of my eyes.

RESPONSE: There's a 100% guarantee that if you don't do it, your waiver denial will stand. "I was told that my physical exceeds their myopia standards and that I was also unable to do the pre-op to proceed with corneal refractive surgery." That means you have three strikes against you...but the third strike is under video review. So, the odds are, if you don't do it, to use a gambling term, "it's a lock" your waiver decision won't change. If you do get it accomplished and submitted, it's a longshot, but a possibility.

I will definitely do the appeal. I will be talking to my cadre on how to move forward with it. I’m not particularly trying to be a pilot so I hope that my eyesight won’t be held too hard against me. My vision isn’t terrible just blurry. I think I did this exam before with the Army and they said that my vision was within standards. I just didn’t know the Air Force was more stringent with theirs.

@KingBreezy, what is your situation -- cannot be corrected to 20/20, or exceeding 8.0 (or some lower number for pilot)?
