Some of the numbers in this report surprised me. I expected to see that the Marines commissioned the fewest ROTC officers, but always thought the Air Force would have been the second smallest. It seems that it is actually the 2nd largest in producing ROTC officers (if you believe CBS :shake:).
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/21/national/main5326885.shtml

U.S. Army In 2006 the number went up to 4,500. Next spring the number will be 5,100 and by 2011 5,350

Air Force ROTC producing about about 1,850 to 1,900 second lieutenants a year (over twice as many as the Navy?).

The Navy has commissioned about 740 ensigns this year through NROTC (this number probably does not include nurses)

Marine Corps commissioned about 275 second lieutenants commissioned through NROTC,

Here is a link with the 2007 numbers:

http://prhome.defense.gov/poprep2007/appendixb/b_32.html

Service Academy ROTC Non-Scholarship
Army 1048 2010 1175
Navy 822 801 9
MC 233 41 0
AF 974 750 1177

I wouldn't put too much stock in the Marine and Navy numbers- notice that the Navy shows 1010 "source unknown" and the USMC shows 563 "unknown". Now I could believe that they could lose track of a relative handful (the Army reported 13 unknown and the AF reported 4) but Navy/MC had - 1573 officers that they couldn't identify where they got them from?? Looks like another example of Government accounting. It seems likely that they have a lot more ROTC graduates in the USMC than 41- given that VMI alone had about 25 USMC commissioned that year.

Perhaps due to the Navy ROTC and Navy ROTC Marine Options partially training together?

I'm always hesitant to quote Wikipedia. For instance the following link also indicates that the Air Force has the largest budget of the Armed Forces. So when people say that the AF is the smallest of the services, they are actually saying that the AF has the fewest number of enlisted personnel but the second greatest number of officers and the largest budget?

sounds right. the AF is geek heavy and hence top heavy.

I knocked it's credibility? Where?

I apologize. Knock is a harsh word. I'd say you questioned its credibility. If you had simply noticed that the link to its source was right there then there would be no reason to be "hesitent to quote wikipedia" in this particular case.

I did question the credibility of Wikipedia. I never questioned your link and as a matter fact gave an example of my own.
