what is the class size that admissions is trying to acheive for 2014? and how many of them get accepted through EA? thank you.

The class sizes are about the same. The math is the result of Congressional authorization of the total allowed at the Academy, 4,400 was the last I heard. Since there are no transfers, you can top off the total number with the incoming class knowing there will be some attrition (which is why each incoming class is not 1,100). You cannot go over the number, and not all offered will accept or show up on I day.
The EA number is something I have never heard mentioned before. I don't know if that is published or even decided in advance.

This is an answer to the math question only. When I visited USCGA they told me that they offer about 400 appointments. Approximately 300 show up to R-day. They said that 60% of the appointments come from early action.

Are you talking about USNA or USCGA? (this is the USNA section)

I didn't know USNA had any "EA" program other than LOAs, which of course are not appointments.

Huh? Are you saying that have 25% no-show rate?

There is no Early Action for USNA. There are some Letters of Assurance, but they still require certain things -- they are not offers of appointment in and of themselves.

USNA doesn't publish the number of LOAs. However, they have said they are used somewhat sparingly because they constrain USNA's ability to form the class if really great candidates show up later in the cycle.

Numbers for USNA are in the class profiles -- USNA does one for each class. I think it's on the usna.edu website, probably under Admissions. Tells you the # of applications (realize that many don't complete their apps), number of candidates 3 Q'ed, number with noms, number of appts offered, and number accepted.

What he was trying to convey was that USCGA historically offers approximately 400 appointments and that approximately 70% are accepted, leading to a class size of approximately 280 swabs on R-Day.

Why he posted this information in the USNA section? I have no idea.
