I am not sure how many of y'all read the college confidential forums, but I was aghast at the widespread misunderstanding and lack of respect for the military that was expressed in this thread:

It is rather long, but I found all of it to be quite an interesting read. While one can reasonably criticize Forbes's criteria, this makes me wonder how much of the public holds the military and the service academies in such low esteem.

I was expecting worse when i clicked on the link. At least they know they're there....I wouldn't expect much more.

Just went through and read all 13 pages of it! Found it fascinating reading. Would have liked to have been involved in it back in August when the discussion was hot and heavy, but I'll refrain now.

I do agree that as a WP grad, I have been astounded by the public perception of it in various places around the country once out of the military. I spend most of the time I've been on message boards on a Disney based one which I've been on for a decade now. About a year ago someone posted a thread about their nephew who had been accepted to WP and mom wasn't happy about the idea and dad was all for the free education but not much else. I was just shocked by the number of people (moms) who replied to that thread to say they'd never let their babies (and yes, most had younger kids) go there! Honestly, I had no idea! I posted that if nothing else it made me feel more optimistic of my son's chances of getting in!

Meh, it's not as bad as some.
Did you check out the "Say it ain't so!" thread in the SA parents sub-forum on CC? That is a mixture of hilarity and tragedy!

I just feel bad for the well informed kids with the off-the-wall parents.

My opinion that I made the right decision to go to a service academy was just solidified by the pitiful complaints and arguments of the elitists who attend ivy league schools...what a disaster thread.

Give me a break. The biggest "elitists" I know are fellow Academy grads. A**holes and idiots are everywhere.

USNA was mine, also a reasonable amount of interaction with USAFA grads, similar problem. Don't know a lot of CGA grads.

There allowed to be for awhile they've accomplished something.
but enough with the "ring knocking" already:yllol:

I've found this is more so with the "big three" as USCGA and USMMA grads usually have to explain exactly what their school is before they get cocky. In addition to that, CGA grads also have to explain what the Coast Guard is, that it's not part of the Navy....etc. It's hard to get a big head when all that goes into it and the people in your community outside the gates think it's a VoTech school.
