I am a junior in high school and I am interested in applying to the AFA, if I’m an otherwise good candidate, would my ADD meds or 504 plan prevent me from being accepted?

Head over to the DoDMERB forum and read the Sticky post at the top.

Go to the DoDMERB home page and read through all the menu items on the left.

Here is the link to what I believe is the current medical accessions standard:
https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodi/613003p.pdf?ver=2018-05-04-113917-883

Read carefully. You have to be off certain medications (not just stop taking them), functioning well without them and have appropriate medical documentation. Standardized test scores, I don’t think you can use accommodations with those. People can and do successfully get into SAs with these medical history issues through waivers, but they have to plan ahead, work with healthcare providers and parents, document everything. Your health and successful function come first, though.

Consult official sources for best info.

The medical accession standards are set high because military service is often performed under harsh operating conditions, far from advanced medical care, in high-pressure situations, with the safety of a unit often dependent on having fully capable unit members not vulnerable to conditions which might impact unit readiness. You aren’t just applying for four years at USAFA; you are asking to be considered for service as a leader on active duty for at least five years, responsible for other people.
