USMAPS

My application for USMA is all complete except for the CFA(waiting for the gap between cross country and winter track to take it) My gpa is good-3.5 unweighted and I have extracurricular activities, attended two leadership conferences and have community service. My SAT scores are my worry. I have above the average for Writing(630) and Critical Reading(620). My math is a 550 however. I plan to take the test in November, December, and possibly January(latest i believe). Would I be offered a spot at USMAPS because I believe my resume is pretty strong minus the math section. Any input is great!

unless you are a recruited athlete or prior service, it is kinda difficult to get into the prep school. However, if WP really wants you, then you will be going to one of few prep schools that WP has in mind.

Really? I wasn't aware that Prep school was a competitive institution. Can anybody else shed more light on this?

Candidates who are either not qualified or not chose for admission are considered for one of two prep programs sponsored by West Point.
To be admitted to USMAPS - you can't be qualified for admission. This is for otherwise great candidates that have a 'weakness' in their file that needs to be corrected.
Soldiers who apply for admission will be considered for USMAPS depending on their high school record and how long they have been away from academics.
Recruited athletes who have an academic weakness are also considered and can play on the USMAPS teams without losing a year of eligibility. Not all recruited athletes go to USMAPS - far from it. Many win direct appointments.
A number of kids from high school are also offered and accept USMAPS appointments who are neither soldiers nor recruited athletes. About 270-300 candidates are accepted each year.

The other Prep progam is the AOG scholarship and you must go to a school designated by admissions. These offers are normally made to candidates who are academically qualifed but don't make the cut. Sometimes they are also a little weak on athletics or leadership but really strong in other areas.

You cannot apply to either USMAPS or for the AOG scholarship - you are selected from admissions.

db10 - If you are interested in USMAPS should you not win an appointment then you should be proactive and discuss this with your MALO or call you Regional Commander in the admissions office.
