Thank you. Have not heard from Peters. Good luck!
DS got a rejection letter from Sen Peters today. At least the waiting and hoping there is over. He has a senatorial and service connected nom for USMA and a service connected nom for USNA. Now we really just have to sit back and wait - fingers crossed - until the powers that be decide. What a roller coaster ride but loaded with valuable experiences so far. (By the time I was 18 I think I had one interview under my belt. At Kentucky Fried Chicken! And they turned me down! lol)

I have a cadet at the Air Force Academy currently. He was the principal nomination for district 8 last year. He didn't receive any nominations from his senators. His little brother is a senior this year and applying to USAFA. His little brother received a competitive nomination from district 8 for USAFA, but not the principal. He also received a nomination from Senator Cantwell for USAFA. Interestingly enough he also received a nomination from Senator Murray for USMMA. Unfortunately we were notified of this on February 2, he never opened an application for USMMA and their deadline was January 31st 🤦🏼‍♀️. USAFA is his first choice. He's really hoping to attend the Academy with his older brother. My understanding is in the state of Washington that if someone receives a principal nomination, they do not get nominated by their senators. Historically that is what I have seen.
We are from District 8 and I remember when your DS got the nomination last year! Congrats! Appreciate the info on how the Senatorial nomination process works for principal nominations in WA. I figured that they must communicate with each other to spread the wealth per se. I wish the best of luck and hope it all works out for your younger DS as well!!

I am wondering if anyone has any statistics On the percentage of likelihood of receiving an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy if you are 3 qualified and you receive a Congressional Nomination, that is not principle, and a senator nomination? I know that only about 10% of candidates are on the service Academy forum, But even if we understood what the statistics of those 10% were it would be interesting to see!
The statistics if available would not get you much as each separate district is its own entity with different levels of competitiveness. I can tell you that in my area, simply making it to one of the Congressman's ten noms is probably greater than a 50% chance as we seem to get that many appointments out of the district each year. Other places even within this state get lower numbers and are thus lower percentage chance. As for Senatorials, Consider the number of congressional districts in CA, FL or TX versus the number in Alaska or Wyoming.

I really understand what you want us to tell you which is the percentage chance your candidate has considering that they are 3Q with Congressional and Senatorial noms but sadly, there are really no such stats that I've ever seen. Even here, approx 10% of APPOINTEES identify themselves but many are lurkers until they get the appointment and we have NO IDEA how many unsuccessful nominees are floating around observing.

Congratulations on this! I think I may have seen you at the interview, since you and I were the only Naval Academy applicants there. I'm not sure though...
Sorry to hear you weren’t nominated. Did the interviewers tell you how many applicants there were?

They said there were many, but not a specific number... and I don't know if that number was for USNA or all of the SA.

Official now, no Senatorials for my son (in MD). Got an email from Cardin's office today.

So, all he received is one to the USAFA from our MOC. Nothing for the USNA. Bummer for him.

My son didn’t receive one for USNA either. He is very disappointed. He did receive 2 to USMMA and 1 to USAFA. He was also awarded an AROTC scholarship.
He’s hoping to get NAPS now.

Best of luck with everything! I still haven’t heard from any MD senator and I am in the same position as your DS with a USAFA (MOC) nomination.
My DS also received an email from Senator Cardin congratulating him for being nominated by Van Hollen. The email states that they will defer to Senator VanHollen's since he needs only 1 nomination anyways.

As an update, my son reached out to our MOC to see if he was a standard, or princial nom for the USAFA (based on everyone saying whether they were a principal nom in the threads here). They replied quickly saying that they do not delineate someone as such, and all nominations are submitted as equal by their office. So basically, leave it up to the SA to make the call as to who they deem the best option.

Interesting how each jurisdiction and state do things differently!

DS has 3 nominations for USMA but has not heard anything on his status...medically qualified with everything else "green" according to him. What should we expect (other than to wait)?

From what I've read, He should receive his 3Q letter if he hasn't already and/or notification of being on the national waiting list. Nothing you really can do, but be patient and wait. Be aggressive with anything additional admissions sends his way. Good Luck!

He is happy with whatever he gets but we’re a Navy family, he’s always envisioned himself as a Navy Officer.
We’re beyond grateful for the scholarship and the Noms - just praying an academy works out for him.
If USNA is his first choice, hopefully NAPS is offered. We have the one MOC USNA nom but DS seems determined to hold out for NAPS if he doesn't get a direct appointment.
