SecNav Thomas W. Harker (Acting), CG Vet

Which sites were these?
@Devil Doc, I think what squids were crying about was not the fact acting Secretary was a Coast Guard veteran, but rather the fact that he attended the University of California, Berkeley. I kid my Cal friends calling their school UC “Berserkly” (great school by the way).
Here is how the Berkeley City Council spent some of its time two years ago (from Yahoo news, July 2019):

"As a result of the vote on the proposed ordinance, the word “manhole” would be changed to “maintenance hole” in city documents, the news site Berkeleyside reported. “Human effort” would be substituted for the word “manpower,” and “sorority” or “fraternity” would be changed to “collegiate Greek system residence.”

I see change in store for the Coast Guard Academy. The word “Academy” will be substituted with “Higher Education Institute”. So Coasties – Semper Paratus! The "Coast Guard Higher Education Institute" has a certain neutral ring to it and is less stuffy than the word “academy”. On the other hand, there would be a mutiny if the new Secretary tries doing that with the Naval Academy.

Jokes aside, I trust that the Secretary Harker understands the nature of the sea going services as a veteran himself. I think he’ll do just fine. No one is crying here.

@WT Door I agree, he appears to be an excellent choice for SECNAV.
ACTING SecNav
No permanent/regular nomination has been made thus far but generally it will not be the acting who in this case is coming from the Comptrollers Office and probably will not be the eventual nominee.

Very good point. I forgot the "political" part of the equation. Any democrats with Navy ties available? Former SECNAV Mabus was a SWO and former governor of Mississippi. Who might fit the bill? Let's hope she's a good one!

Hopefully a lot better for the Navy than Mabus was.

Nothing in the Constitution against it.

Facebook, twitter, and comment boards.... It was a joy to read. and it was specifically about him being Coast Guard.
Oh, his CG resume looks good to me and I can where his policy experience would be of benefit in the E ring.

Oh yeah, definitely. It was mostly the typically grumpy "this is why I got out" kind of stuff. Which of course was absolutely sniped by a bunch of Coasties getting on to rub it in.
