Waiting Game

Does anyone live in a Covid hot spot? Been trying to retake the SAT and ACT and it has been canceled in my area since March. So frustrating as not happy with my scores. Frustrating as Covid has been the wild card in this cycle. I'm very happy with all my other requirements and two nominations, but tests have been a struggle just due to the lack of availability to take them. Plan B is in place, however.

Live in a hotspot, people don’t care. So I’m free to take it whenever I want.

Based on my DS's experience, a letter will be posted in your portal from admissions informing you they have requested a waiver on your behalf. Then your DoDMERB will update. Then they will contact you if they want more information for the waiver consideration.
If DoDMERB requested additional supplements for a waiver and it says that I am under waiver review for the academy on my DoDMERB status page, does that mean an academy requested a waiver?

Just wanted to make a separate thread for those of us waiting.... trying to avoid so many messages in the appointment thread (I'm definitely guilty of those off-topic posts :)). Just a place to posts all our anxieties and even speculations. Best of luck to you all :popcorn1:
Great initiative @anlee!!

@anlee, you have good intentions here. Camaraderie can indeed help in times of stress. At the same time, I seriously wonder if sharing, as you say, “anxieties and speculations,” is actually very counterproductive.

One of the most constant pieces of advice shared on SAF — because it’s such great counsel — is to focus your energy and time on things you can control. Worrying about anything beyond that is a terrible suck on your mental and physical health.

With respect for your good intentions and a nod to your leadership, I say go exercise to burn off stress and prepare yourself for summer training; tend to your Plan B; and spend meaningful time with family and friends. All those will be far more rewarding and productive than wallowing in each others’ “anxieties and speculations” here.
Post of the day @MidCakePa !! Great insight as usual!

There is a recent waiver thread that asks about these specifics and they are addressed by someone from DoDMERB officially. Probably be best if you review recent threads in DoDMERB - you should find the answers to your questions there. It's unclear to me your situation as you said "requested additional supplements for a waiver." I know for USAFA DS received a letter very specifically explaining to him their waiver request and next steps. Still, I'd refer you to the DoDMERB forum - it's all there and within the last couple days those threads discussing waivers have been updated.

Yes it was extremely stressful. The schools had waiver it but the nom offices were still requiring it. Another part that made it stressful for him was doing this on top of everything else. It was hard to finding who to communicate with at the school district to see if it would be cancelled. He ended up taking it twice but he went out of town. I dont understand why the nom offices were requiring more the schools. I really wonder if applications were lower this year for the nom offices because of this stress. Final mom thoughts here, I wasn't comfortable with him being in a congregate setting either.

CFA was the sama drama, no guests at facilities.

The last time I took an SAT was in 2019. I haven't been able to take one since. It was my first attempt and I really feel like I didn't get represented well at all. C'est la vie.

Same here, did you submit your first SAT score or you submitted your app without SAT

Hi everyone, I'm a Senior applying to USAFA and on this forum site, everyone seems to be getting appointments and foundational scholarships etc. My domicile is West Virginia and I received a nomination from Senator Manchin and my congressman with an AFJROTC nomination.... I've been told from my senator and other credible people, that admissions, especially USAFA admissions, don't come out until like April beyond. So kind of late in the *college* process. I'm also applying to the Naval Academy and was put on the "National Waiting List" at the Merchant Marine Academy.

What, in the end Im trying say is, the waiting is tough but it helps to know other people are in the same the boat, but more importantly, we've come this far waiting, so whats another month.

We should normalize having anxiety and worry. It’s ok to feel that way and it you can be doing gall those things like working out and keeping yourself busy and still be anxious. Everyone handles things differently and I don't think there’s anything wrong with being a little anxious while waiting. It’s all about how you deal with and process those feelings. What works for you may not work for others. Saying out loud to peers in the same situation you are that your feeling a little nervous and sharing that experience seems like a great idea to me.

I'm a varsity runner and talk ALOT before meets because it helps many many runners especially new runners feel better knowing the person they are running against are just human. Does that mean my competition maybe better because they no longer feel stressed? Yep but we don't run to see who can panick the most we run to see whole at the end decides " eh I'm in pain anyway might as well push" Runners have such a strong bond because we not only embrace the suck but we also help others embace it too.

Communication is key among team mates and that starts that's admitting your scared or worried or in pain. I have been in the middle of a race, tapped my team mate on the shoulder to signal "it's me don't speed up to cut me off" then when I caught beside her I tapped her other shoulder and pointed this ment "Rivals up ahead, moving on them at the turn"
You don't get to have that communication with out first going through sucky miles, bad days and pushing each other in mud!

Express when your worried others probably are too just make sure you aren't whining. Get the worry out there so we can help each other not to worry anymore.

I just received a phone call from an admissions counselor (I assume) at Air Force Academy, she let me know that they have just started reviewing applications and said that we should know by the end of April.

I thought it was THE phone call, I was sooo excited 😂

Pretty sure that application review @ USAFA began in October or before. ;)

This sounds strange!

I’m thinking the same thing. ⬆️

I'm not sure. I thought she meant maybe the admissions board is meeting more frequently or that they were reviewing the bulk of the applications.
👌🏻
Btw, where you part of FVE? Just out of curiosity!

Can I ask when you finished your application?
