I know that the 2020 NSI was cancelled. Does anyone know if there will be one for this upcoming summer? I received the 4-year scholarship, and I have not received word on whether there will be NSI this summer. Thank you

Congratulations on your scholarship! NSI, as well as all summer training, is up in the air. The Navy is working hard on a plan to vaccinate current contract Midshipman so they can participate in summer training/cruises. NSI is the lowest priority and in my opinion would be a heavy lift for this upcoming summer. There is a lot of catch-up going on for all of the training/cruises that got cancelled last summer.

Good luck.

Thanks for asking, same here.

Assume yes. Rising 1/C and 2/C are already putting in requests to be NSI detailers, and they've already selected dates. There will likely be a ROM, as it's unlikely every single candidate will be vaccinated.

Thank you. Do you know what dates NSI would be held?

As of right now:
New Student Indoc I: 21 May - 05 June
New Student Indoc II: 18 June - 15 July
New Student Indoc III: 16 July - 13 August
Entirely subject to change. This is also for detailers, it might end up being different dates for candidates.

This is from an earlier post. No idea if it has changed.

Thank you for the dates, do you know how sessions are assigned?

In previous years you got to put in a request for your 1st choice (San Diego vs Norfolk). This year it seems they are assigning based on geography - East of the MS River goes East..

It looks like you are referring to NSI, correct? I believe @EEBTTF was referring to CORTRAMID in his response. Since NSI has actually only been held once, I can't say for sure how they make assignments. There were threads about this in the spring of 2019 that might help you find the answer. You can use the search function near the top of the page.

@ProudDad17 - Good catch, I type faster than my brain can process these days..

When I went it was mostly/entirely based off when everyone's school started. That being said, there might be opportunities to request specific sessions, however that's information that I'm not privy to.

Since NSI at a single location was such a new concept, my DD's Univ has the belief that NSI will remain at the individual University for at least the next cycle. No evidence they are correct, just the impression they are giving.
