Any one heard from Senator Cardin or congressman Sarbanes???

Sort of frustrating listening to people already being notified they have a nomination and we have not even heard from one of our Senators or Congressman! Just more waiting!!

Have Cardin interview on Dec 5, and Kratovi on Dec 15th and did phone interview with Mikulski a week ago.

Cheers

Did you get a letter from Cardin? We got a letter saying they would be in touch but have not had an interview set up. I know from his web site his are the 5th. We had Mikulski's last Fri. Nothing from Sarbanes.

Second Cardin letter received Friday for interview on the 5th. Original letter received said they would be in touch.

Son received letters today for interviews with Sarbanes and Cardin.

Daughter received a letter today from Senator Cardin's office stating due to the number of applicants her interview will be scheduled for Jan. (no date). She is to email them if she receives an email from another source.

Same with my son. Cardin in Jan. Seems late to me. We did hear from Sarbanes today for a Dec interview.

Son received a nomination to USMA from Senator Mikulski. He has an LOA from USMA. Mikulski nomination letter received on Friday November 27. Cardin interview still on December 5, and Kratovil today November 28. USAF is second choice as of now, but will still pursue nomination.

Son also received letter from Mikulski yesterday - He is an alternate for USAFA? Never heard of this....

Nothing for USNA yet, though, his top choice. Hoping to get a nomination from Cardin or Sarbanes. Only time will tell.

Sounds like your MOC submitted a principal nominee with either ranked or unranked alternates. Since you only stated he is an alternate (not given a number, as in not the first alternate or second or third alternate etc), I am guessing maybe it's an unranked alternate slate. If the principal doesn't get an appointment (who knows, might need a med waiver) or doesn't accept an appointment - then the alternate slate will be used - either in rank order (if provided to the SA in ranked order) or as an unranked slate for the SA to select. I know of a gal a few years back that was principal on the MOC slate and then tore her ACL in late May. Alternate got the appointment in mid June because she could not attend with her ACL injury.

MDMom, a friend of my son also got a letter stating he is an "alternate" for nomination to the USAFA. His letter stated that he was not selected for nomination to the USNA.

Both our sons have Cardin interviews to be scheduled for January.

CronusMom - Son also has Cardin to be scheduled in Jan. He has Sarbanes interview December 11.

His letter from Mikulski only mentioned USAFA; no mention at all of USNA.

Good luck to your son and friend!

For states that are very competitive like MD it is not unusual that you only get one nom to one SA, they are spreading the wealth. This is why it is really important to rank them the way you truly desire.

Also, realize that if the MOC has their last interviews in January you will not hear until they complete all of the interviews.

January is not late since the slate is not due until Jan. 31 (typically). I know for our DS Burr did not do his interviews until Jan. The nom notification came within a few days from the interview.

If you receive alternate that does not mean it is all over if the principal accepts, you can still be put into the "pool" with the appt coming from different sources. You need the nom to be put into the pool. Additionally, there are principals who select a different SA, which frees up that appt. Like 11 stated a lot can play into the situation. My anecdotal story is a candidate got prin to USNA, but wanted USAF, our friends son got prin to USAFA and wanted USNA, they called the MOC and they switched it, both are now at their dream SA.
